My name is Patricia Cosentino, and I'm the owner and instructor at Kumon Math and Reading Center of Pacific Palisades.  I've had the pleasure of being in business just over 5 years and have taught hundreds of students in my town.  This job is one of my greatest joys and working with children is my heart's passion. On March 19th, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I held my last class at the center, and for the last four months I've been able to operate my center remotely. I've lost dozens of clients, like most small businesses, as my families have had to deal with homeschooling stresses and their own financial struggles related to the virus.  I am finally reopening my doors on July 16, for classes to be held again in person at my center. I'm so happy to be able to see the faces of my students again but also extremely nervous about exposing myself, my staff and my students to potential sickness.  As a single mother who runs a business completely on her own, I have to be extremely careful with my health.  I also want to protect my staff and my clients in the most effective way possible. I have bought masks, face shields, Plexiglas dividers, sanitizing spray, gloves and thermometers - but I am still nervous about the overall air quality in the room I will be sharing with my students. I've done a lot of research on companies who can help create and maintain clean work spaces, and I want to invest in a UV air purification system that will continuously clean the air in my center and kill any virus that happens to be circulating in our air.  The company is called Synergistic Sanitizing Solutions (<a href="https://www.synergisticsanitizingsolutions.com/"><a href="https://www.synergisticsanitizingsolutions.com/" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.synergisticsanitizingsolutions.com/</a></a>).  I will need to purchase several units in order to cover the square footage and ensure that the center's air is completely treated.  Each unit costs $1500, shipping costs will be roughly $200 and then an electrician will need to be paid to properly install .  The money that is donated will go into paying for this system, and will help ensure that my classroom environment is virus free for years to come.   It is difficult for me to ask for help, but I'm hoping you will consider helping me to create a safe environment so that Kumon Math and reading Center of Pacific Palisades can keep running as safely as possible.

Clean Air for Kumon of Pacific Palisades

Celeste’s Cancer Story Family and friends, we are starting this go fund me to help ease the financial burden for Celeste as she embarks on her battle with cancer.  Celeste recently had her first mammogram and was diagnosed with breast cancer on December 16, 2019, just three days before her 46th birthday.  This is devastating news to this SINGLE mom of three awesome young boys: Ian (age 16), Mason (age 14), and Gavin (age 9) who mean the WORLD to her.  She is a loving, hardworking, and unbelievably strong mom who puts her sons first.  She is a Fort Pierce, FL native who has lived in CA the past 23 years.  The initial diagnosis was that she would have a lumpectomy, and a month later, she would need four weeks of radiation for five days a week.  During the lumpectomy, the surgeon discovered that the cancer spread to her lymph nodes.  She also had a CT done, which showed a spot on her liver.  She is having a MRI done today to determine if the spot on her liver is also cancer. Unfortunately, her cancer is much more aggressive than originally thought, which has tremendously changed her treatment plan.  The oncologist determined that it would be in her best interest to fight this cancer by doing five months of two different types of chemotherapy, followed by six to eight weeks of radiation.  Chemo will start on February 18th, and she will be in a chair for five hours for each session.     Because of this, she is currently unable to work and will not  be returning  for at least another 6 months.  She has been with her employer for 23 years, and has only called in sick three times.  She has not received any compensation from her employer while being on leave.  Cancer itself is a HUGE burden, but now she has the burden of supporting herself and her three precious boys while fighting the BIGGEST fight of her life.  Now, it is time for us to send our love, prayers, and support as she fights this long battle.   Please keep Celeste and our family in your prayers.  If you are able to help financially, every little bit helps and is truly appreciated.  We sincerely thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  Please let this be a lesson to us all and get your first mammogram at age 40, or earlier if you have a history of breast cancer in your family.  Because Celeste puts the needs of others before her own, she did not get her first mammogram until her younger sister, Mitzi, urged her to get one.  God will see US through this, and Celeste will KICK CANCER’S ASS!!!

Celeste Fight Against Cancer

On December 20th, 2018, Damon Geller, a life-long pillar of the Pacific Palisades community, was abruptly taken from us in a surfing accident. Damon was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, and mentor to many, and for those of us who knew Damon, we mourn the loss of a truly fierce friend and neighbor, whose kindness and generosity were surpassed only by a truly inspirational zest for life and living. Damon passed while enjoying one of his many athletic passions, having surfed across the globe, and leaving us in the manner in which he lived among us, without fear, and in pursuit and awareness of the many experiences which many of us fail to even observe, or take for granted altogether. Damon was immensely inspirational, in many respects, and it would be truly impossible to express the profound sense of loss which this community now bares.  Of his many passions, none was greater than his empowering love for his family. Damon is survived by his wife, Lili, and his two amazing children Jonah and Delilah. Although horrible for us all, this tragedy weighs heaviest upon them, as they struggle to navigate a life without him, and deal with end of life and future expenses. Therefore, please consider helping these loved ones of a great man who gave so much to so many through your generous donations. Marquez Community-One of our own could use some love.As you may have heard, there was a house fire in The Highlands last Friday. The Choi Family, Yvonne, Gus, Enzo (5th Grade) and Erin (2 nd grade) are all safe. However, their home has a long road to recovery. Many of you have contacted me asking what can be done to help. I have set up this page for donations for them to purchase everything needed to rebuild, including clothing and housewares. The smoke smell has permeated all of their personal belongings. They have graciously accepted this offer of assistance with hesitation, not wanting to impose on anybody. Let’s take care of one another.... Please share with 5th and 2nd grade families.
