Ce matin, j'ai reçu un appel du meilleur spécialiste de Québec qui s'occupe de Goliath. Il a été pris à temps et un traitement est possible pour lui. <div>Goliath est entré dans ma vie un jour de printemps, rapporté par un ex qui, dans un moment d'impulsion, avait décidé d'ajouter un chaton à notre appartement déjà rempli de deux chats. Mais Goliath s'est imposé avec son charisme incroyable! Nous avons développé une quantité impressionnante de rituels quotidiens dans nos existences, car c'est ce que les chats nous offrent de mieux, les rituels. Ensemble, nous avions un grand terrain de jeu, avec moi en tant que travailleuse autonome et lui en tant que chat heureux que je reste à la maison.

<div>Chaque fois que je rentrais, j'étais accueillie par ce chat massif, au nez carré, qui apparaissait avec une démarche féline pour réclamer des câlins et en offrir en guise de bienvenue. Il me laissait faire des piles de vêtements pliés sur son dos, prenait en otage mes feuilles de notes et me réveillait souvent à 4 heures du matin pour m'avertir que le soleil allait se lever et se mériter un câlin. Il dormait avec moi toutes les nuits dans une cuillère parfaite et confortable, offrant une véritable séance de zoothérapie.

<div>Le matin, il posait sa tête sur mon épaule pendant que je lisais les actualités sur mon téléphone, m'empêchant de perdre du temps sur Tiktok ou Instagram en raison du son abrupt et imprévisibles de certaines vidéos. À chaque repas, il mangeait assis à côté de moi sur une chaise, et l'après-midi, il posait sa tête sur ma cuisse pendant que je travaillais sur le divan. Écouter des séries collées? C'est avec lui que ça se passe, agrémenté d'un petit ASMR de ronronnement.

<div>Avec Goliath, plus que les autres chats et les humains que j'ai côtoyés, j'ai développé une incroyable relation. C'est un chat calme et doux immensément thérapeutique qui a su absorber une quantité astronomique de stress et d'anxiété. Je me suis peut-être ruinée en frais de vétérinaire, mais probablement moins que je ne l'aurais été avec tous les frais de psy qu'il m'a évités.

<div>Sans ce traitement, son cancer sera fulgurant et rapide, avec seulement deux semaines maximum. Vous pensez peut-être que ce n'est qu'un chat, mais non, ce n'est pas juste un chat, c'est Goliath, mon Goliath. J'ai perdu des chats auparavant, mais lui, ce n'est pas la même chose. Nous rencontrons parfois des êtres vivants qui nous bouleversent plus que d'autres, souvent des humains, mais parfois aussi des animaux.

<div>This fundraiser began as a means of raising non-lethal, defensive equipment and materials on behalf of Alina Viatkina -- a volunteer in Ukraine and my friend. Our fundraiser has been suspended since March of this year. Unfortunately, GoFundMe has a policy to only fundraise for humanitarian aid. After months of trying to find a way to make it work, we have determined that the only option has been to pivot our fundraiser. However, Ukraine is not in a shortage of essential initiatives to fundraise for and support. Therefore, we are pleased to divert this fundraiser to support the LGBTQ Ukraine Fund, spearheaded by Ukrainian Canadian theatre artist Andrew Kushnir and supported by the Veritas Foundation. The Veritas Foundation will be receiving the funds, and they will then distribute funds to 6 Ukraine-based LGBTQ supporting NGOs outlined below.

<div>Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces on February 24, LGBTQ+ people in Ukraine have been among the country’s fiercest defenders and organizers, while also being among its most marginalized citizens. The We Support LGBTQ Ukraine Fund is raising monies for six non-governmental organizations in Ukraine that are serving the immediate needs of queer people – particularly those who have remained in the country.

<div>The We Support LGBTQ Ukraine Fund is currently focused on Ukrainian NGOs on the ground. By virtue of being in direct contact with their community members, these organizations are particularly capable of agile and timely responses to individual crises.

<div>These NGOs and their activists are:

<div>Establishing and sustaining LGBTQ+ safe shelters in numerous Ukrainian cities;
</div>
<div>Assisting with the essential needs of LGBTQ+ people including food, hygienic products and medications such as anti-retroviral therapies for those living with HIV and hormone replacement therapies for trans individuals;
</div>
<div>Coordinating the safe relocation and rehousing of internally displaced LGBTQ+ Ukrainians;
</div>
<div>Providing assistance to/advocating for trans and non-binary individuals navigating Ukraine’s martial law;
</div>
<div>Providing legal support, psychological support and counselling.
</div>
<div>The six NGOs that are currently beneficiaries of the fund are:

<div>1. Gender Zed: based in the southeastern city of Zaporizhia, this NGO is currently focused on meeting the essential needs of its community members and coordinating relocation for LGBTQ+ folks who are internally displaced. genderz.org.ua

<div>2. Kyiv Pride: has been a leading voice in the information war, has been meeting essential needs of community members, and has recently opened a shelter for LGBTQ+ folks in Kyiv. kyivpride.org

<div>3. NGO WA Sphere: based in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, this organization’s focus during wartime is meeting essential needs of community members, providing psychological support to LGBTQ+ folks and women, and facilitating relocation and shelter of those in unsafe areas. sphere.org.ua

<div>4. Cohort NGO: has been specifically addressing the needs of trans individuals in Ukraine

<div>An avid proponent of social justice and education, entrepreneur James Burn matched the first $10,000 CAD raised by this fund, dollar-for-dollar.* Within 5 days of the fund’s inception this goal was reached. Community leaders Salah Bachir and Jacob Yerex then matched the next $10,000 CAD in donations. Now, the generous Linton Family is doubling the next $10,000 CAD raised. The fund plans to have a rolling group of matching donors so as to double the impact of all gifts.

<p><strong>COVID-19 RELIEF FUND FOR MEDIA LUNA RESORT AND SPA WORKERS</strong>

<p><strong>Since March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has shut down all tourist activities on the island of Roatan, Honduras. No more tourist means no more jobs. And no more jobs means no more income. Indeed, Hondurian companies and government do not support their people by far as much as Canadian companies and governments do! <p>In September 2016, <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/1594227400879868" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">a Facebook group</a> was created to share our experience and inform potential visitors about the great vacation experience we had at Media Luna Resort &amp; Spa in the island of Roatan, Honduras. Since then the group has grown ±1500 Canadian members, providing a place to ask questions, share pictures, engage in discussion and connect with strangers who have been or may become friends on our next trips. We all share a love for this tropical heaven, and the fantastic workers who make each moment of our stays so special.<br /><br />A small team from our Facebook group have organized to spearhead this relief effort. We wish to work quickly, effectively, and most importantly, <strong>transparently</strong>. This is why all efforts are being coordinated together and in direct cooperation with the workers there.<br /><br />While we cannot do much from here, we can provide some peace of mind for our hosts at the resort through <a href="../f/helping-hands-from-the-north/donate" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">monetary donations</a> . We love this place, the beauty of the reefs, don't we? We regularly express our gratitude for the hospitality of the people that look after us while we stay there.
