<div>We are Frank and Izamara. Our beloved 2-year-old maltipoo chihuahua, Sushi, was hit by a car on Tuesday, March 12, and suffered a traumatic abdominal wall hernia, displaced bladder, perineal hernia, and multi-pelvic fractures.

<div>At the time of the accident, he was being cared for while we visited family in Florida. On the same day of his accident, we were already scheduled to return home to Chapel Hill, NC. As we made our way to the airport, we received the worst news of our lives. Sushi, our tiny baby, had been run over and was unable to walk with several wounds on his hind legs, and heavy bruising on his abdomen and groin. Frank's family was able to rush him to a veterinarian who spoke with us over the phone and insisted the best option for him was euthanasia due to his state of shock at the moment and by assessing his X-ray scans. It felt as if the world was crumbling down around us. We felt powerless because we couldn't even be there with him to help him pass. We decided we wanted a second opinion, and his parents graciously rushed him to an emergency veterinary hospital. At this point, we had been deplaned off our spirit flight back home due to mechanical issues and had our flight pushed back from our original time of 4 pm all the way to 7 pm.

<div>Meanwhile, Sushi was being assessed by the emergency vet, who had access to better technology. We were given the option for euthanasia and surgery that was estimated to go upwards of 15 thousand dollars and had no payment plan options. As two broke college students, this felt almost impossible, sending us into a spiral at the airport. This Dr had given the option to keep him on pain medication while our flight arrived from FL to say goodbye to our little guy and be there with him while he passed.

<div>Having been thrown so much information in a couple hours and making such gut-wrenching decisions, we told her to keep him comfortable so we could be there with him while we stepped foot onto the plane. As soon as we sat down in our seats, we called her back, begging her to release him to Frank's family so they could take him home and give us time to find cheaper surgery alternatives.

<div>We finally arrived in NC after an eternity and rushed to see him. As soon as we entered through the door, Sushi's ears perked up, and we felt immense relief just being able to see him. He wore a look of immense sadness, very unlike him. We spent the entire night calling clinics all over the state, trying to find places that offered payment plans; however, we were being told that we must pay all surgery fees upfront to have someone help him. We didn't let all the no's stop us, and we continued looking the following day until we finally found a place that could do his most life threatening hernia repair (abdominal) and offered a yearly payment plan (Animal Emergency Hospital and Urgent Care). His first surgeon was able to complete the abdominal hernia repair, placed his bladder in the correct place, and assessed that his organs were healthy with no damage from the accident. He is currently still under their direct care as we wait to transfer him to Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital (TVRH) in Durham.

<div>TVRH is the location where Sushi will get his two missing surgeries for pelvic fracture repair and perineal hernia repair. Both these procedures require specialty surgeons and are way beyond our budget. We are doing our very best to help our tiny baby, but we would appreciate any help from anyone. Sushi is truly a ray of sunshine; anyone graced by his presence will attest to his sweetness and curiosity of the world. He loves to run and go on hikes, dance with Frank and I, eat a lot of yummy chicken, stick his head out of the window to feel a breeze in his face, and sit by the window on slower days to watch people walk by. He was the only puppy in his litter and we have known him since the day he was born because he is the son of Frank's mom’s dog. We had the pleasure of bringing him home with us when he was around 3 months old. We joke that he was the only pup because his big personality and energy was that of a full litter. Witnessing Sushi grow has been the greatest joy of our lives. We ask for your help in paying for his surgeries and promise that we will do our absolute best to give him the happiest, most fulfilling life when we reach the other side of this horrible chapter of our lives. <div>Hi, I'm Todd Grosshandler, and I have been a close friend of Woody Pekoske's for more than 30 years. Woody is in need of prayers, financial assistance and ideally justice. On Thursday, Feb. 15, he was riding his bike on Highway 401 in Raleigh when he was struck by a car going ~ 60 mph. The driver did not stop. Fortunately, a good Samaritan did, and EMS was called. Woody was taken to Wake Med and awoke roughly 7 hours later. He is still at Wake Med -- suffering from a concussion, a cracked hip, two broken scapula three broken ribs, and a collapsed lung. Needless to say, he is in a lot of pain and has extremely limited mobility. Of most concern is the right lung that is not improving as quickly as the doctors would like. He will be at Wake Med until that resolves and then will be most likely transferred to Wake Med Rehab. We are still awaiting the police report but need help in finding the person who did this (driver was in a white BMW, we were told). Woody also need lots of prayers. And he needs financial assistance. He lives alone with his dog, Addie, and has no income while he recovers. Your donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to Woody during this challenging time. Please consider helping him. Some of the pets I come across need treatment, sometimes life-saving treatment, that can be very costly and it's hard to say no to a pet that’s truly in need. That is why I started this GoFundMe Campaign and more recently a non-profit organization called Project Street Vet .

Financial assistance is typically provided for minor care such as vaccines, spay/neuter, and various medications, although it could be something more in-depth like a dental or emergency procedure.

How this happened, we do not know. He has had all his regular check-ups and vaccinations.  Doctor says he needs a blood transfusion at the Moreene Road Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital in Durham, NC. One transfusion costs between $5000 and $8000. We need help. <div>As many of you know my whole heart is dedicated to my family and my yorkies. My furbaby is 4.5 year old yorkie named Molly. When she was 9 months old, I rescued her from a horrible home where she was neglected and the other dogs she lived with bullied her and used her as a toy since they were never provided any. She has flourished since then and has such a full personality now. However, since I rescued her, she has had constant gastrointestinal issues, most minor, but she has clearly been getting worse over the last year. Despite her obviously being uncomfortable by something, none of the vets we’ve seen were able to figure out what was causing her excessive panting. We spent hundreds on so many different diagnostics and bloodwork to figure it out but that didn’t tell us anything. We have now finally figured out the cause of her discomfort, which is a large mass in her gastrointestinal tract causing intestinal bleeding. Unfortunately, that means she has to undergo invasive surgery to remove it which is going to cost several thousand dollars, but we hope once its removed that she will have a significantly improved quality of life.

Update from Greg on 3/19/22:<br /><br />Sorry I’ve left everyone hanging, wondering what might be going with me. This post will be very to the point because I simply don’t have the energy for any pizazz.
<br /><br /> The trial was unsuccessful for me. My cancer grew in my liver to a point that it cannot be treated. Hospice is coming to our home today to help me be comfortable until I die.<br /><br />I can barely do anything anymore. I am in bed most of my days. I have no comfort. Constantly uncomfortable. It’s hard to eat. It’s hard to enjoy myself.
<br /><br />I REALLY appreciate everyone here in this group that has followed along and showed support for me and my family these past two years. I always wanted to beat this thing and throw a big party with anyone and everyone from the group invited so I could show you all my love. I’m afraid all I can do now is ask that, if you’re somewhat close to my wife, please give her support. She is having a very hard time with this, as you might expect. I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose me… I’m so awesome. : )<br /><br />If you sent me a letter while I was in the hospital, I got it! Thank you for your words.

Greg Haupt<br /><br /><br /><br />—————————————-<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />Family and Friends,<br /><br />Greg and Megan's world was turned upside down as they received the news of Greg's colorectal cancer.  On March 31, doctors confirmed that it had metastasized to his liver and lungs.  This is something no one is ever prepared to hear, yet alone it happening to our amazing Greg and his beautiful family.  <br /><br />Since that day, with the help from very special colleagues, Greg and Megan were connected with a specialist at Siteman Cancer Center.  Dr. Tan is an amazing doctor who created an action plan that made them feel comfortable and hopeful in his plan of attack.  Greg started his first round of chemotherapy on Tuesday, April 7 that will take place every other Tuesday for two months, followed by a scan that will monitor the progress of his treatment.  At that time, another round of chemotherapy will begin for two more months.  Dr. Tan is also researching blood traits and any other possibilities that will help find the right therapy for Greg's case.  <br /><br />What makes this even more heartbreaking is that COVID-19 has taken away precious time being spent with family and friends.  It has taken away a school routine for Henry, Max, and Jane.  It has taken away Megan being able to just focus on Greg.  It has taken away work from Megan so she can care for their kids and Greg during the day.  It has taken away normalcy for everyone, but in a time when the Haupts could use it most, it's gone.  <br /><br />In addition to all the constant prayers, positive thoughts, countless messages, and meal support, so many people have asked what they can do to help.  This page was created to give everyone the option to donate, if they would like, to help with medical bills, grocery deliveries, meals, activities for the kids, etc., especially while work is nonexistent.  The funds will go directly to the Haupt family to alleviate some of the burden.  <br /><br />The Haupt family is loved by so many and they feel your love and support each day.  They are extremely grateful for all of you and <strong>thank you</strong> from the bottom of their hearts.  <br /><br />"Encourage, lift and strengthen one another.  For the positive energy spread to one will be felt by us all. <div>Thursday, December 30, 2021, the Marshall Fire swept through the suburban neighborhoods of Superior and Louisville, Colorado, destroying everything in its path. Fueled by 115 mph winds and a season void of rain or snow, within hours, the fires had consumed more than 6,200 residential acres, making the Marshall Fire the most destructive fire in all of Colorado’s history. More than 35,000 people had to be evacuated from their homes. Teresa and Jon's home and out buildings were among the nearly 1,000 that burned to the ground.

<div>Teresa and Jon have each other, their dogs (Pip and Bootsie), and the clothes on their backs. Two months ago Jon was diagnosed with stage 4, inoperable prostate cancer that has spread throughout his entire body making getting shoes on a very time consuming task.  Jon wears slippers now because there wasn't time to get his shoes on. Their cats, Darcie and Gracie, were hiding from the confusion and couldn't be found quickly enough. All personal possessions, art, family heirlooms, photos, medical supplies, had to be left behind. Following the Fire Marshalls down the road, literally through the flames, the back window of Jon's truck blew out from the heat and wind. Fire was burning a football field length every two seconds, flames were 40 feet high - angels worked frantically to save as many as they could.

<div>As can be seen in one of the photos, their home was burned to the ground.  Only the chimney and an archway, where Teresa planted climbing flowers, remain.

<div>In addition to Jon's long dedication to volunteering in the community, Teresa spent hours growing vegetable gardens and planting flowers, bushes, and trees.  Although Elk would often eat it, Teresa didn’t mind sharing. Because of drought, she put a baby pool for fresh water out at night so animals passing through could have water. She piled a stack of stones in the wading pool so small animals could get out if they fell in. They were visited by rabbits, fox, bobcats, deer, bears, raccoons, prairie dogs, and elk. Teresa was trying to create a wildlife sanctuary where native plants, bushes, and trees would feed wildlife, allowing them to safely exist with the human inhabitants of the mesa. Teresa and Jon loved living in the beautiful setting they had created together.

<div>Now living at a hotel with other survivors of the fire, they hope to rebuild. The photo of the home site after the fire was shared by an animal rescue volunteer searching for Darcie and Gracie.

I am Jack Bankston, a 70 year old Hospice patient, with end stage COPD and congestive heart failure. I have been in the care of Hospice for close to a year. It took me quite sometime to come to grips that my life was ending, but finally I have reconciled myself to it. Knowing that I am at peace with my spirit, has certainly helped. There are times however, that I want death to come soon, knowing it would be a rest for me, but I keep on fighting. You see, even though I have no family and most of my friends have passed on, I do have my dog, Casey, my little hero, my ray of sunshine, the absolute love of my life. He is why I'm fighting so hard.<br /><br />I live in an apartment, that I moved into with my Mom, that has since passed. I've resided here for the last 16 years. I have never been late with my rent and kept the owners property always in immaculate condition. I never made it a secret to him of my health issues, that I was on hospice and of my financial hardship. I pleaded with him last year to please freeze my rent, so I could continue to live here. He turned a deaf ear to my plea and raised my rent to $145 extra each month. I have scraped, depleted all of my savings, maxing out all of my credit cards, even eliminating some of my medicines, that Hospice is not providing to just keep afloat. Now, coming up next month, my lease comes up for renewal. <br /><br />Casey, my beloved companion also has health issues. His bill has reached $4200. I was informed just recently by the Vet, that the staff will continue to treat him, but with an outstanding balance this large, they will only be able to perform only mimimal diagnostic testing. The Doctors have been very kind to me and Casey and has never asked me to pay the balance in full, and I do understand that this is a business and not a charitable organization. He means so much to me. As I was receiving this news, tears were streaming down my face, and at one point, I thought that the only choice I had was to surrender him to the Vet, for adoption realizing that I had failed him as his owner. Even though Casey is very taxing on me physically and I can't give him the play time and excercise he needs, I make up for it in the love I show him every day, and he gives it back to me ten-fold. I lay with him. He follows me everywhere I go, and when I'm sitting, he's laying across my feet, and the thoughts of giving him up would be ultimately impossible. He holds me together like glue. He's my everything. <br /><br />All I want in my life is to stay in my home, without a rent increase looming over me, thanking God for the extra day that he has allowed me to be with Casey, and to be able to pay his Vet bill down, so that he will be able to get the best medical care possible, and of course when I pass, have him by my side. Francesca McCall's sister and brother in law died from COVID-19.  The mother died in September.  The father passed the next month on his wife's birthday.   Ms. McCall promised her sister that she would raise her five children along with her seven biological children.  Ms. McCall is a single working mother trying to raise twelve children.  They are all trying to deal with the passing of their love ones.  Ms. McCall is working tirelessly to supply the need of ALL TWELVE CHILDREN especially during this Christmas season.  The children ages are two to seventeen years old.  We are raising money to be sure the children have a MERRY CHRISTMAS dealing with this unanticipated death of both parents.  Donations will go directly to the children every day needs.

Sister Vows to Care for Deceased Sister's Children

K9 R&amp;R is one of the millions of small businesses being affected and suffering severely due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. For almost 6 years, we have provided the community with a comfortable, fun, and safe place for dogs to stay during the day and overnight. We have also had open doors to rescue groups who needed a temporary place for rescue dogs to stay. Many of these rescue dogs were being threatened with hours to live. Without us, some dogs would have never made it to adoption. We are a different kind of boarding kennel- we learn every detail about the pets in our care and provide one on one attention to everyone. We truly do our best to make every pet's experience with us the best possible. During this difficult time, business has slowed drastically, almost to a complete stop. However, we are still housing rescue dogs and need your support to help keep us going. For the sake of these dogs, please find it in your heart to help. They are counting on us. Donations will go towards electricity and other utilities, compensating staff, dog food, and daily care. 

**UPDATE**
 I received notice from my mortgage company that they will start proceeding taking the property from my business. The only thing that may save us now is if we can get approved for a program that specifically will defer the payments for 6 months. However, to do so, we must come up with $5,500 very soon. I think of how many rescue dogs we've saved over the years and how many more we could if we could keep the property. We've received no word from government funding programs, as we are on the list of millions applying. Please reach into your heart and help as you can. Anything helps. Thank you

Save a Rescue Sanctuary

We need your help. Two of the seven bridge clubs in our unit, The Bridge Academy and Triangle Bridge Club, are for-profit clubs which lease their premises monthly. They are currently closed as is most of our country during this unprecedented and uncertain time in our nation's history, yet their rents and other fixed costs do not disappear. Brightleaf Unit 191

Carter Mae is a spunky kid. Almost 5, she has a thing for Elsa, and can belt out a pretty darn good rendition of Let It Go. She also loves hanging with her big brother, AP, riding bikes, and playing cashier. <br /><br />She had just finished up her first week of Pre-K. School is also one of her favorite things. <br /><br />On September 8, 2018, Carter Mae was diagnosed with Stage 4 Wilm's Tumor, after a dramatic presentation to the ED.  Kinda like Carter Mae does... She has metastasis to her liver, lungs, and heart. The primary tumor envelops her entire left kidney and extends up her inferior vena cava into her atrium. Only 3-4% of Wilms Tumor kids have this type of cardiac involvement. <br /><br />She has already been hospitalized twice for the initial diagnosis and then complications from chemotherapy. She has a planned admission for surgical resection of the entire left kidney + as much tumor as possible. After nephrectomy, she will continue chemotherapy and receive a course of radiation. <br /><br />Carter Mae is looking at months of clinic visits and hospitalizations. The intent of these funds will be used to pay copays and other medical costs.  While we are fortunate to be insured, there are still many costs associated with a childhood cancer diagnosis. Cancer is expensive, y’all. The above goal reflects already incurred costs and planned medical care, not including any additional complications. She’s one tough  cookie, so here’s hoping things will be smooth sailing after the dust settles.

Carter Mae's Wilms Wishes

A family at Lakewood Elemtentary (with siblings at Githens and Jordan) is facing a court ordered eviction within a matter of days.<br /><br />Because of recent ICE raids, the family has been fearful of leaving the house.  This fear has impacted their ability to get to their jobs. <br /><br />The family has been working hard to make up lost works days, but they are short about $1,000 due to the late rent fees and court fees tacked on. <br /><br />Please consider helping this family with any amount possible. Hornets Championship Fund!

In June, Kaleek had another surgery related to his 10-year battle with kidney failure. A week later we lost my grandmother and the next week Kaleek was hospitalized do a bad kidney infection. In August, we got word that Kaleek would begin the kidney transplant process. That process started with almost weekly trips to Duke Children’s Hospital in Durham, North Carolina for meeting the transplant team and testing. Then Hurricane Matthew decided to grace North Carolina with its presence in October. Our home along with two cars was flooded.  Our belongings were lost and our home was made unlivable. We lived in a hotel in Wilmington, NC before finding temporary housing.<br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/17512120_1484633646.5113_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /><br />All while still continuing to make trips to Duke Children’s Hospital for appointments. Kaleek is unable to return to his home due to the mold and mildew that is in the home as a result of the flooding, as this puts him at risk for developing life-threating infections. Then just five days before Christmas, Kaleek and the family received the best Christmas present we could ever ask for. After battling kidney disease for almost 11 years. Kaleek received his new kidney. This was the best gift we could ever ask for.<br /><br />We greatly appreciate any amount of gift you are able to extend. As Kaleek moves forward toward a full recovery, we ask for your generosity, your prayers and good wishes.
