<div>We're a queer community of refugees living in a refugee camp in Kenya. Most of us are originally from Uganda, where we had to flee violence. After fleeing violence from our own families, we thought it would be safe here, but it is not. Now we’ve been facing violent homophobic and transphobic attacks from fellow refugees and from locals here in Kenya.

<div>We are living in extremely hostile, violent and homophobic conditions. We are being persecuted, beaten, stabbed and cut with machetes, gang raped, and burned alive by homophobic groups of men. We have fled our countries of origin from homophobic persecution, murder, and imprisonment. We’ve literally ran for our lives into the refugee camp seeking asylum. In the camp we’ve found the violent homophobic living conditions more dangerous than the countries we’ve fled from. we are living in substandard inhumane living conditions. we are forced to pay high medical costs from private hospitals to manage diseases and injuries from horrific violent attacks. We are forced to take turns staying up all night standing guard against violent attacks in which we are stoned with rocks, fire bombed, burned alive, beaten, slashed and raped. These are not isolated incidents, this is the reality of our daily life. We receive no counseling services for the trauma we are suffering.

LGBTQIA REFUGEES IN KAKUMA REFUGEE CAMP

<p>Dearest Friends, Family, and Caring Community,<br /><br />We have created this page in support of Alice and Brian Caraway as their nine-year-old Owen has just been diagnosed with a rare bone <br />cancer—Osteosarcoma—in his right femur. To start, he is going to need three months of chemotherapy followed by reconstructive bone <br />surgery, then five more months of chemotherapy. There are still many unknowns about his condition and treatment plan, and we will be posting updates on their <a href="https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/owensprogress" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">CaringBridge</a>  as we learn more. 
</p>

<p><strong>The Caraways need you! They need your love, support, help, and company to get through what will be a long journey battling and <br /></strong><strong>kicking Osteosarcoma's butt over the next year. As you can imagine, the financial and emotional toll of all of this is and will continue to <br />be overwhelming for the Caraways. <p>I know we can all agree on two things: Alice, Brian, and Owen are some of the best people on Earth, and having your child diagnosed with <br />cancer is one of the hardest (perhaps the hardest) experience to go through. <br /><br />We have known Owen since the day he was born. He is family to us and to many. He is sweet, hilarious, insanely smart, multi-talented, <br />loving, and open-hearted. Watching him grow up has been a pleasure and an honor for us all.

<p><strong>A MESSAGE FROM THE CARAWAYS</strong>
</p>

<p>We have been hit with the most devastating news a parent could receive. Our beautiful son, Owen, has been diagnosed with a rare bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. He complained of knee pain which we brushed off as growing pains. This was happening on and off for a few months until one day, it was so excruciating for him that he started crying. He went in for x-rays, then an MRI, then a biopsy, which confirmed the diagnosis. It has taken over 3/4ths of his right femur, and hopefully it hasn't metastasized into his lungs. The Orthopedic Oncologist doesn't know if he can keep his femur. The options are Limb Salvage Surgery or Rotationplasty, which both require a prosthetic leg. Owen will have to miss school this year and possibly beyond due to his treatment plan of 2.5 months of chemo, then surgery, and then he will undergo more chemo. If they find it in his lungs, he'll need additional surgery. Typically, if it spreads to the lungs, it will keep coming back. We are completely in shock and absolutely heartbroken.

<p>Owen is an absolute gem of a kid. He loves cats, baseball, and he finally learned how to drop into a 4 ft ramp with his skateboard. He recently told us he wants to be an Olympic Skateboarder. He recently told us, "If I don't win an Olympic Medal for skateboarding, will you still be proud of me?" The doctors said he could come home wednesday 8/18 instead of staying at the hospital for ten days. He just needs to show signs of eating. He had a hard time sleeping last night and threw up. So as of today they are still watching him.<strong><br /><br />8/17<br /><br /></strong>Tuesday 8/17 they will install a port in Owen's chest to help administer chemotherapy. They will also remove a nodule in his lung on Tuesday 8/17. Then they will remove the other nodule a few days later. The following week, he will begin his chemo treatment through October. Then after that they will perform surgery. It will be either limb-salvage or rotationplasty. Afterwards, he will undergo about 6 more months of chemo, including physical therapy. He will need a wheelchair during recovery as well. Treatment should be over by next summer.<strong><br /><br /></strong>

<p><strong>UPDATE: WE ARE RAISING MORE MONEY TO ALLOW THE PLANES TO KEEP DOING MORE TURNS.</strong><br /><br />We are coming to you in desperation to conduct an <strong>emergency flight rescue</strong> of 300+ Afghan souls. I have been working alongside humanitarian aid groups, decorated military veterans, and activists on the ground in Kabul, fighting to save people who otherwise have no chance at survival in the Taliban-occupied Kabul.<br /><br />The individuals in question are high-value targets - Afghan men and women who have worked as human rights lawyers, champions of Women’s and LGBTQ rights, journalists, government liaisons, artists, and interpreters - all of whom are at <strong>imminent risk of being executed by the Taliban,</strong> along with their families. We will be taking full family units.<br /><br />If these people do not get rescued as soon as possible, neither they nor their family will make it through the month. The Taliban have a KILL LIST and are going door to door, searching for these people and reportedly <strong>killing them on sight if found</strong>. Every one of these individuals on the manifest have been vetted.<br /><br />Due to the rapidly deteriorating situation in Kabul, this rescue mission will only be possible if $550,000 is raised to fuel 2 airplanes to fly into Kabul from a foreign country.  <strong>If we raise twice the amount ($1,100,000), we’ll do another run. There are enough people in need to make many round-trips with our two airplanes. We will continue multiplying as goals are met. </strong><br /><br />With help from people on the ground in Kabul, and the newfound security of the airport due to increased US presence — we have arranged for a <strong>safe onboarding process</strong>. All of the people who will be boarding the planes have been extensively vetted.<br /><br /><strong>Every $1,500 raised represents a seat on one of the planes, and a life saved.</strong><br /><br /><strong>Please share wide and far, as hundreds of lives are at stake.</strong><br /><br /><strong>FUNDING</strong><br /><br />The money will be paid to and distributed from Raven Advisory, LLC, based in NC.<br /><br />Any overages in funds raised beyond flights will be donated to the International Women’s Media Foundation, who are actively helping with this rescue effort + settlement, to help the people we rescue start a new life. <br /><br />Destinations have been secured to allow our planes safe passage + landing, and locations cannot be disclosed until the flights have arrived safely. <strong>Who: That Kettlebell Guy</strong><br />Hey everyone, my name is Jt Netterville I'm a Southern transplant currently making Honolulu a healthier place one client at a time.  Some of you know me and some of you don't.  For those of you who don't, I was that pudgy kid in middle school who couldn't quite get that whole fitness thing down (the rest of you may even remember that kid).  But like most of you who were in my shoes, I grew up, worked hard and made a healthier life for myself.  Over the past 18 years, I've dedicated my career to helping people do the same. Which brings me to:<br /><br /><strong>What: THE IUKL KETTLEBELL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Nov 25-29 2015</strong><br />For the past 4 years I've focused my attention on introducing Kettlebells as a sport to Oahu. Kettlebell Sport has had a huge impact on the lives of myself and many of my clients.  It's a passion that doesn’t just build health.  It builds community, character and deep friendships. A few weeks back, I had the pleasure of competing in the Northern California Open where I finished 1st in my weight class and the US Nationals where I brought home the bronze.  As a result, I have the amazing opportunity to represent our country as part of the US National Team at the Kettlebell World Championships in Dublin, Ireland!<br /><br /><strong>So What:</strong> <br />Here's where you guys come in.  There is no way that I ever would have made it without the help of all of you along the way.  Even way back in middle school, some of you were there with an encouraging word or a smile that helped me get through. Today the heart of my team consists of my wife, Sherrie and my son, Wyatt.  They're my pit crew and the key to my success. The journey up to now wouldn’t have happened.
