<div>Those of you who know me, know that I have spent much of my life helping others, as a healer for animals and people. I never imagined that I would be in this position, but I am in need of and asking for your help. In March of last year I was diagnosed with something called Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. While it is said that this is a condition that people "die with, not from", it does come with symptoms and complications. And because my family carries the BRCA1 gene, my oncologist had me tested and confirmed that I also carry this gene. This, on top of having blood cancer, makes me more susceptible to certain other cancers. So I recently underwent a breast MRI, which did show a mass in one of my breasts. At this point, they are calling it benign, but further testing is needed. I go in for more blood work in two weeks, and if my numbers continue to go in the undesirable direction in which they have been going, I may be a candidate for treatment at that time.

<div>Those of you who know me know that my leaning is more toward integrative therapies. I have given my name to an integrative group at the cancer center where I am being cared for, and am waiting to hear their exact recommendations. But my desire is to be able to get more holistic treatment, such as acupuncture, mistletoe therapy, Vitamin C therapy, oxygen therapies such as hyperbaric oxygen and ozone, as well as specific nutritional supplements. I would prefer to go this route rather than harsher medical treatment, but I will do whatever I need to do. But all of these things take money, and insurance typically does not pay for these treatments. And I currently have co-pays that I have not been able to cover. So I do not have funds for these treatments.

<div>I am still able to work, but I find that my stamina is diminished. My work with the horses as a bodyworker/therapist is physically demanding. And if I go into treatment I will find it harder to work. While I want to continue my business of 28 years, I have found that this year has not been kind to me in terms of work, and I now find myself in a dire situation financially, on top of all of these health and medical concerns.

<div>So now I am greatly in need of help. I currently need help with rent and living expenses, medical co-pays, food, and supplements. I need funding for these integrative treatments in order to hopefully prevent the need for harsher cancer treatment, and to reverse the course that this disease seems to be taking.

<div>And just this afternoon I received word that I am at risk of losing my beloved laser that I use for may healing work with the horses, because of some missed payments due to this situation.

<div>Justin P adopted Lazarus the morning he was scheduled for euthanasia in a kill shelter. Lazarus is a bid dog- Great Pyrenees mix, maybe with Golden Retriever. He is a good boy, and accustomed to being a stray, but took to Justin and his family the first day. Unfortunately, Lazarus was used to being outside and on that first day he didn’t know his new home yet and pushed his way past Justin to get out the front door.

<div>He was missing for 24 hours, with Justin and others searching constantly and following leads and sightings reported all day long on social media. It ended with a report of Lazarus being hit by a car after traversing a busy highway. Good people were with him, and got him to an emergency vet/ hospital.

<div>After the emergency vet and some lifesaving procedures and spending a night there, Lazarus was transferred to another facility.
</div>

He is only 2 ½ years old has proven to be an incredible lifeline to my husband for his disability, to my two sons during this isolating pandemic, and to myself.<br /><br />10 days ago, he fell seriously ill. He has an extremely angry pancreas, a swollen liver and spleen, fluid in his abdomen but worse, extremely low blood platelet count. He has been diagnosed to have IPD most likely, but possibly lymphoma. We cannot currently test since the required biopsy would most likely have him bleed to death given his platelet count.<br /><br />We have a small window possibly still save him!!!!!!!<br /><br /><strong>Treatment:</strong><br /><br />-          Medication to up his blood platelet count: he started this already, but his platelets need more time to regen. This can take up to 14 days….. $1500/day IF there are no additional emergencies<br /><br />-          Biopsy<br /><br />-          If he does not have lymphoma, we can treat him all out for IPD. It would be about 3-10 days in hospital followed by 4-6 months of outpatient treatment with bi-weekly blood tests<br /><br /> <br /><br /><strong>Please help us give him a fighting chance!!!!</strong> I was heartbroken when I heard my husband discuss the situation with the vet today. The vet said Marshall could hemorrhage any moment. Gary: "yeah I have seen people die of hemorrhaging right in front of me and it is a horrible way to go." Then he cried  - I was like.. I got nothing... I mean, what do you say to that?<br /><br />I am so worried that not being able to at least try to save his comrade will make the effects of his PTSD worse than it would be if we could at least give Marshall all we got. Thus far we have spent about $4000 on hospital treatment for him. So we called the breeder and just that same morning another family had given up their hold on one of the male puppies in her littler. THAT was Marshall. We felt it was a sign from God! Heaven sent! Meant to be! He joined us shortly thereafter and has never left our side since!!!! Marshall is scared and alone right now and we want to give him all we can! Saving Marshall - our Veteran's Service Dog

My dear friends, Roberto and Stephanie Jones Monfa recently relocated from Bend, OR to Idaho Falls, ID excited to begin their next adventure in life with their 2 little boys.  Roberto was looking forward to starting his new job there while Stephanie and the boys would get settled into their new home and community.<br /><br />Unfortunately, these plans all changed when Roberto caught Covid-19 during the move and has been in ICU for over 3 weeks. He was recently taken off of a ventilator but has developed Covid pneumonia and is back on the ventilator.  They will be doing a trecheostomy  to allow him to rehabilitate and get extra oxygen anytime he needs without being sedated.   Although he is stable, his lungs are weak.  He is a fighter, but the road to recovery will be a long one.<br /><br />I know that Roberto would be forever grateful to know that his family is being taken care of while he is hospitalized and unable to work.  There will also be medical expenses involved even with health insurance coverage.<br /><br />If you’re able, please donate.  If you aren’t able to donate, please continue with your prayers and love.<br /><br />#FundCovidRelief

Funeral funds for Rafael Martinez Contreras

My Wife and I were blessed to find out we would be expecting our first son on March 21st. Unfortunately from the start we were experiencing issues with the pregnancy. Zander arrived into the world on December 7th 2019 weighing 1 pound 4 ounces, 3 1/2 months early. We will never forget the night he was born. They had him on 100 percent oxygen and he was still not breathing. I remember the dr telling us he was not going to make through the night, and they were going to try one last thing so they could say they tried everything. Thank the lord that one last thing worked and saved his life. 
Zander was intubated for the first month of his life l, and was extubated on January 7th. This was the first time ever that mom and I were able to hold him. Things went very well for a couple months after that, until his co2 levels started spiking. He was given more and more support until he was maxed out on settings and the decision was made to re-intubate him. The night he was re-intubated he went into hyper tension pulmonary shock. We almost lost him again that night. For 14 days strait he was maxed out on vent settings and still not doing well. On the 14th day he turned blue in the face and stopped breathing. They had to do an emergency procedure on him to get him back. 
From that point on weirdly he started doing great, every day making 2-3 ajustments lowering his vent for about 9 days. Until they were on such low settings they were able to extubate him and put him on the nose cannulas. Unfortunately a few days later his co2 spiked and is now at an unsafe level. We have elected to make the choice of putting a tracheostomy tube in. With the tube in we will be able to go home in a few months after extensive training where he can safely grow and heal his lungs. The only problem with this is he will need full time nursing at home. Our health insurance is only going to cover an extended amount of it and we have a 15,000 dollar deductible. My wife is not working and I am self employed. Due to my son having a lung disease I have temporarily shut down my business . If we have to I will burry myself into a hole financially to be able to care for my son. Anything is greatly appreciated.

*all proceeds will go directly to zanders medical bills*<br /><br />March 2021- the last thing we wanted to do was to have to ask for more help but we don’t actually know wish to do at this point. Things were going perfect for quite some time, we used the original go fund me money to cover the deductible for our 2020 health insurance( that took all of about 3 weeks of being out of the hospital to reach) once we paid that we didn’t have to pay anything else out of pocket for the remainder of the year. 2021 started and we did everything in our power to keep our income below the mark so we could get the most help from the state for a great price with minimal out of pocket and we got approved for it. Zander was doing amazing, crushing all his milestones. Crawling around, standing up, talking l, the wring reek food . On top of that we were able to save some money and it looked like we we’re finally going to be able to get ahead. Everything went downhill quick. While I was bringing the money we had saved to the bank to deposit i got a service, so I stopped there quick. When I came out of the house I found my car door wide open, window popped off the track, and the money was gone as was my cell phone. I was able to get my cellphone back but the money was gone. That was a huge bummer because it was a solid amount of money . But that was only the start of things going down hill quick.<br />Unfortunately things did not work out as well as we hoped at the new house either, last week we were completely blindsided by a notice that we had to leave in 30 days. We originally were only renting the house for 6 months, but the landlord asked if we wanted to stay a year and we agreed, but he slipped a note in the rental agreement saying we could be asked to leave in 30 days at any point. It all comes down to a nasty neighbor who lied about multiple things that were far from true. So now we have 30 days to find somewhere to live. <br />To top it off we received a letter in the mail saying our health insurance was canceled and denied due to not meeting income requirements. Basically if you have a job and work you don’t get any help. Once again we will be paying too dollar for a terrible health insurance plan with a ridiculous out of pocket  amount<br />It’s one of the worst feelings in the world having to make this post and having to ask for help but I don’t know what else to do at this point. This system is broken <br />

Zanders Medical Needs

Catherine Alford’s rescue, Rocky, was bitten by a snake here in AL. The veterinarian she rushed him to actually made things worse! Later she had to go to the Emergency Vet &amp;, other than charge her a fortune, they didn’t help much. Leg still swelling, blistering &amp; collapsing, she made it to the Med Vet in Mandeville. In critical care now. <br /><br />If if you can help, please help offset this bill. We all know Catherine &amp; we know how much she loves her dogs.

Snake bite veterinary bill

A long-time personal trainer, yoga instructor, and counselor, Michael has built his life around service to others.  However, for the last six and a half years, after what he thought would be a routine hernia repair surgery, his life has become almost unmanageable, including  a nightmarish myriad of health issues due to failed mesh. Today, despite his continuous search for medical answers, Michael remains in severe around-the-clock pain -- a pain he describes “as if my entire torso and face are being rolled in shards of glass." Despite this intense pain, he continues to fight and hold hope for some kind of relief. Having exhausted all options within his reach, he needs immediate financial support to help investigate possible solutions.  <br /><br />Because mesh damage isn't generally recognized by insurance companies, pretty much all of his care or even investigation has to be out of pocket. While he does have modest insurance in the form of Medicaid, it does not cover the kind of help he needs. <br /><br />There are still possibilities – from alternative modalities, like myofascial work, to a doctor in Denver who specializes in mesh complications, to the greater possibility of a place like the Mayo Clinic that deals with more difficult cases. Right now, however, all of these possibilities are out of reach for Michael. <br /><br /> If you can donate to help offset some of Michael’s extraordinary medical costs, it would mean so much to him and his family. Financial support will give Michael a better chance of finding answers, getting healthy again, and returning to the teaching and counseling that have defined his life.<br /><br /><strong>Here is the full story as told by Michael:</strong><br /><br />In August of 2012, I had a mesh hernia repair, not warned by the surgeon of any of the risks mesh involved.  At that point, I was vibrantly healthy, teaching 20 yoga classes a week and working with numerous fitness clients, along with my own training.<br /><br />In August of 2013, the mesh and staples tore free.  I was immediately in crippling pain, a pain which steadily worsened as the lose mesh began to damage the muscles and nerves of the groin and abdomen, as well as the bladder and intestines.  Because mesh doesn't show up on imaging, the only way to be sure of a mesh problem is to eliminate everything else, so even though I was confident of the problem, over the next six months I went through dozens of appointments with numerous specialists and various types of imaging to rule out other causes.  By this point, my digestive system had entirely shut down and I was completely unable to eat, sleep, or work. I went through my entire savings simply trying to figure out what was going on. <br /><br />In March of 2014, having eliminated all other possibilities, I finally traveled to a mesh specialist in Nevada (there being none in Colorado at the time) to have the mesh removed.  Because of the location of the mesh, as well as the way fascia and tissue become bound in the weave of the polypropylene, the mesh removal was highly invasive and caused extensive damage to the muscles and nerves.  As a result, my recovery was slow and difficult, but by fall of 2014 I was finally able to return to teaching and most activities, with the pain gradually reducing, although never going away completely.<br /><br />Unfortunately, as often happens with mesh removal, the hernia itself recurred.  Because of all the trauma that region had been through, the several specialists I saw all encouraged me to hold off on surgery as long as possible in order to give my body time to heal -- basically "riding out" the hernia until it became unmanageable.  And so, for four years I did my best to go gently and not let it get in the way of my work or teaching, but by spring of 2018, the hernia became more than I could manage and my doctor and I decided it was time for another repair -- this time of course without mesh.<br /><br />Unfortunately, the repair did not go well -- as previous specialists had suspected, the muscles and nerves of my groin and abdomen had already been through so much that the trauma of the last recent surgery seems to have overloaded my body.  For the last seven months, I have been dealing with steadily worsening pain -- both local and radiating -- that is gradually shutting down my ability to eat, sleep, or function.  Once again, I have gone through numerous specialists and extensive imaging  to make sure there aren't clear complications and have also tried numerous approaches to address the pain, both conventional (e.g., Tramadol, Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Gabapentin, Lyrica, Amitryptaline, Dicylomine, Lidocaine patches, Duclofenac, and two attempts at a temporary nerve-block) and alternative (CDB and THC), all of which so far have had no impact. I am currently working with physical therapists, but so far, that too, has brought no improvement, and again the pain is escalating to the point where my life is becoming unmanageable.  <br /><br />I have been unable to teach since the surgery last June and the pain is increasing to the point where even the occasional counseling session is becoming impossible.  Once again, my digestive system is starting to shut down and the pain is so extreme that most nights I am unable to sleep.  I am trying hard not to give up, but I continue to worsen and my local medical team has run out of options.  Unfortunately, there are still relatively few doctors in the country who specialize in mesh damage and none here where I live, so in my present physical and financial state, I am running out of options.  <br /><br />Again, there are still possibilities – from alternative modalities, like myofascial work, to a mesh specialist in Denver, to the greater possibility of a place like the Mayo Clinic that deals with more complicated cases. <br /><br />Right now, however, without outside financial support, all of these possibilities are out of reach for me and my family.

He has been taken to the hospital and is in critical care in ICU. He had a stroke caused by complications from the flu and a heart infection. The prognosis isn’t good, but we believe in miracles. We are also trying to be practical. Meredith and Mike will be incurring large medical bills and possibly future expenses. We are not only asking for your prayers for Mike but anything you are able to donate to help relieve some of the financial stress. Thank you from all of us.

<p>On December 16, Kamakshi was thrown from her horse and fractured her wrist. Fortunately, her wrist was the only fracture, and she has been very sore with lots of bruises from the impact.<br /><br />Yesterday, Kamakshi underwent surgery at UCLA to set the radius and scaphoid bones, requiring 16 pins and plates set in to her wrist.  She is home and recovering now.
</p>

<p>Our insurance has a rather high deductible ($6,000) and out of pocket max ($7,600).  Because this happened in late December, we will be paying the deductible and out of pocket max for 2018 and 2019.  The emergency room billed our insurance $20,000 for that visit!  Our insurance will cover anything above the out of pocket max for the year.  <br /><br />We had some savings set aside for an emergency like this, but that was quickly depleted.  Kamakshi will have ongoing doctor and physical therapy  visits as she heals up from this.  We have both missed work due to this accident, so any help you can offer is deeply appreciated.<br /><br />We've never asked for support like this before.  All your good healing thoughts are appreciated.  Thanks to all our friends who have been helping out.  <br /><br />Will and Kamakshi

Help Kamakshi Heal from her Broken Wrist

Archer is a Rhodesian Ridgeback that became severely sick in July 2018. On July 21, 2018, Archer was admitted to Nashville Veterinary Specialists &amp; Animal Emergency (NVSAE) after his local vet and a previous Emergency Vet said they would be unable to help him further, he needed the specialists located at NVSAE for treatment for any possibility of survival.<br /><br />Archer stayed at NVSAE until July 31, 2018, receiving care to save his life. During his stay, Archer received around-the-clock care, along with several tests to identify what he was sick with - Fungal Meningitis. During his 10-day stay at NVSAE Archer had several up and downs, but he always continued to show small improvements overall and we believed he would be able to survive this. Archer went home on July 31st and is receiving daily care at home. He has feeling and can move the front half of his body, he's receiving daily Physical Therapy in hopes that Archer will regain feeling and movement in the second half of his body. He'll continue to be on medications for Fungal Meningitis for at least 6 months.<br /><br />Archer, during his stay at NVSAE.<br /><img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/32211336_1534477492961315_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="32211336_1534477492961315_r.jpeg" /><br />Archer will be receiving a Quad Wheelchair soon from <a href="https://www.wheelingsuperheroes.org/archer">Wheeling Superheroes</a> which will help tremendously with his mobility and Physical Therapy. Thank you to everyone who donated so quickly to help Archer get his wheels, Barbara and I are both humbled and grateful for your kindness and generosity.<br /><br />Archer continues to show improvement every day. He didn't suffer any memory loss or impairment from his illness, he still knows who he is and who his family is. <br />A family in our Ridgeback community is going through some tough times right now. Many in our community know Susan and Dave Pisarri. About a month ago, Dave went to the hospital with a severe headache which it turns out was an indication he was suffering from a brain hemorrhage and was admitted to Albany Medical Center for 2 weeks. As part of his treatment, the neurologist recommended he have a cerebral angiogram which carried a small risk of stroke. Unfortunately, Dave fell into that &lt;1% risk pool and suffered a stroke during the angiogram. The whole ordeal was terrifying but thankfully Dave is back home now and the doctors are hopeful for a full recovery with hard work, physical therapy and time.<br />Having myself gone without income during some tough times over the years I know how difficult it is to go a month + without a paycheck and in their case, with mounting medical expenses and a steep co-insurance this has created a hardship. Susan I know is considering a second job to try and make ends meet during the holiday season. I also know her well enough to know that her pride makes it difficult to ask for help. So I thought this would be good time of year to help someone else out who I’ve watched go out of her way to help others out over the years. ​<br />Hey everyone! I am sharing this support fund on behalf of Kevin McKeag. On Friday August 4th, 2017, Kevin got into a skateboarding accident. He fell directly onto his arm and shattered his wrist in five places and compacted his radial arm bone. <br /><br />After an emergency trip to the hospital and a secondary doctor's consult, Kevin made the decision to travel home to Rhode Island to stay with his family. After a third doctor's appointment today, the doctor's suggested that Kevin undergo an intensive surgery that will require general anesthesia, pins to correct some of the fractures, and a platebridge to extend the compaction in his radial bone.<br /><br />Kevin is an amazing guy that has "literally fallen on hard on times." If you know Kevin at all and his deep love for writing and music, his wrist and arm are integral to his livelihood and life passions. Time is of the essence, as 14 days after a fracture the bones start to knit together and heal. As of now the surgery is set for the 13th day after the initial fall. <br /><br />To get the ball going on his procedure next week, Kevin needs to raise an intitial payment of $3,205 before next Thursday, August, 17th. Not having health insurance meant that he had to go through a private orthopedic surgeon. And, although they gave him a discount on the rate of the surgery, the final approximated cost is between $4,000-$5,000. And, he might need a second surgery to get the plate removed that's stretching the compacted bone. <br /><br />The recovery time is 6-8 weeks. During that time he won't be able to work while he is healing and recovering. If we could raise $7,000 to cover overall medical expenses and general care while he can't work, that would be amazing!

Trooper is an awesome 10 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. In February Trooper was diagnosed with a cervical spinal injury. Within 24 hours of this diagnosis he had lost the use of all 4 legs. His vet bills were in the hundreds for treatment and he still needs prednisone indefinitely.  His harness we purchased, so we can physically move him around,  cost close to $200 but it is a basic necessity.  We started taking him to K9 Dog Paddle and Aquadics for water therapy and massage to get those muscles and joints moving again. We are seeing some progress but he has a long road ahead of him. For him to continue to make progress he will need a quad wheelchair custom made for him. The wheelchair will allow him to start putting some weight on his legs and learn to walk again.  The cost of the wheelchair would be approximately $1000. As long as Trooper isn't giving up then either are we! Ongoing Therapy And Vet Treatment 

Hello,<br /><br />My name is Erik, and this is my 11 month old Ridgeback, Sadie. In my struggle to transition from military to civilian life, Sadie has not only been a wonderful service animal, but my very best friend. She is the most loving and caring animal imaginable, and has the absolute sweetest temperament in a dog that I've ever witnessed. <br /><br />Unfortunately, for nearly two months now, Sadie has had copious amounts of purulent discharge coming from her vulva. Some days Sadie is fine and we can take her out to play, and she will play with an energy like you can't  believe. Most days, however, Sadie can't get out of bed.  At this point, a proper diagnosis and prognosis are undetermined, as her cytology and blood work were negative and her ultrasound revealed only that her bladder is situated extremely far-back against her pelvic region. The vet has informed us that in order for Sadie to receive proper treatment, she will need at least one sugery. At several clinics, hospitals, and even veterinarian schools, the cost for Sadie's surgery has been quoted at the highest end of the spectrum. <br /><br />Sadie is too young and too perfect an animal to be given up on. She deserves to live a long, healthy life, but she will need this procedure (at least) in order for that to be a possibility. Unfortunately, after all of the money we've spent on Sadie's health up until this point, we are dead broke: Even our credit cards are maxed out with vet bills. To make matters worse, we were denied for CareCredit due to our now high credit to income ratio. <br />And so we are here today asking for your help. The outpouring of support for the McConnell’s has been incredible and the tributes many have shared are so touching. It only takes a second to realize that Kris opened her heart to the 100s of students she taught over the years. She was seen by many as a second mother and was a friend to all. I don’t think one person can summarize what Kris meant to all of us, so I thought it only right to share some of the memories from the people she impacted so greatly:<br /><br /> “She was kind, talented, and an inspiration to so many. Always there to greet you with a smile. She had a way of making you feel comfortable when you were around her. But most importantly she was an incredible mom. <strong>Our friend Michelle was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Mesothelioma 18 years ago.  At that time she was given 6 months to live.  She had over 100 treatments of chemotherapy and multiple surgeries. Over the past several weeks the disease has progressed and has taken our friend Michelle who is now with her mother in that big beautiful sky.  Michelle passed away last night and her family will let us all know soon when and where her celebration of life will be.  But as you might guess, there has been significant expenses incurred over the course of her illness, especially in the recent weeks.  So, we are asking you, our good friends and family, if you have anything to spare, we truly believe that this could really help alleviate some of the financial costs of the recent and past medical bills and the upcoming celebration of life.   Anything raised above the goal will be used to pay off additional medical expenses. Running to the house, they unfortunately were not able to save Roo, their dog who chose to stay inside. While they were able to move their camper, which had some clothes in it, Mallory's car was parked next to the house and burned as well.  While they are incredibly thankful that they are ok, the devastation of Roo and countless ribbons, trophies, photos, etc from Aaron's riding career as well as items from Aaron's late mother cannot be replaced. <br /><br />The rebuilding and replacing of their home will be such a long process and there are immediate needs that we want to help meet.  Aaron has given his life to being the best horseman he can and both he and Mallory have the biggest hearts and give so much to others.  It's our turn to give back to them in their time of need.  <br /><br />Thank you in advance for giving.<br /><br />Sharon van der Walde

This morning, my brother, Chip Watson, came home from work to find his house had been burglarized. He called out for his dog, Anubis, but no answer. When the police arrived, they found Anubis hiding in the bedroom with a gunshot wound to his head, bleeding profusely. <br />Anubis is one lucky dog. The bullet entered his skull, traveled down his neck and lodged in his shoulder. An inch lower and he would no longer be with us. The police found multiple bullet holes in the walls, so the criminals were definitely gunning for him!<br /><br />Not only was my brother's house violated, but the creeps hurt his "family" as well.  Anubis is Chip's one and only - like a son to him. He is a Rhodesian Ridgeback -- the sweetest, biggest dog you will ever meet.  <br /><br />I cannot think of anything more disrespectful than to shoot a man's dog in his own home. And now, Chip not only has to clean his house (they destroyed it) and replace his things, but he has to pay for Anubis' surgery.<br /><br />If I could create a GoFundMe to get Chip out of that neighborhood, I would. Until we can move him, he will have to stay in a house with bullet holes in the walls. Surgery for Anubis to remove bullet

Hello Rhodesian Ridgeback community. I, along with Sandra Drogmiller, wanted to set up this gofundme for our friend Ryan Wrench and his dog Oliver. Oliver was diagnosed and treated for encephalitis and meningitis in August 2015, just one day after he and Ryan arrived in Seattle, having moved from Michigan. Ryan just graduated from Michigan State University and moved away from family, friends and his girlfriend Anna to take a job. Oliver is his constant companion and best friend. He is the ideal puppy owner - training, vet care, research and a loving nature! There is nothing he won't do for his dog. Before moving, Ryan was already concerned for Oliver as a half sibling of Oliver's, Katniss, had dropped dead in July due to possible heart failure along with lung hemorrhage that had been occuring for some time. Katniss was only 7 months old. Oliver is now 10 months old.<br />Finding out about the diagnosis Oliver received last month (I have all of the vet records), how much the cost of treatment to save him was and how much pain and anguish both Oliver and Ryan have suffered really upset those of us who care for them both. Oliver is a loved puppy and very popular. Ryan posts wonderful pictures of their adventures together. My RR Zoe loves them both (she is 10, and a popular old lady herself!) How could this have happened we wondered?! According to the veterinary specialists in Seattle, this, along with other health issues Oliver has had, are due to his suppressed immune system. He will have a lowered immune response for his entire life, affecting his quality of life. Neither Ryan or Oliver deserve this, and it breaks my heart. Had I been brave enough to breed my own girl and risk the heartbreak that comes with breeding, I would have loved to have Ryan as a puppy owner.<br />Oliver's dam, age 7.5 years, developed mastitis by the time the pups were 2 weeks old. There were 10 puppies that survived. They were fed goat's milk, nothing else for a milk replacer. This is not an ideal diet.  When Ryan arrived at the breeder's house to pick Oliver up, he was bald.  Ryan paid $1500 for a bald puppy. <br />Several of us, including Sandra and Terri (the owner of Katniss) have tried to help Ryan deal with this as best we can, from here in Michigan. Calls, emails, text messages, even just checking in with him. Ryan just turned 22, this is a lot for him to deal with, and he is the nicest young man. Sadly, the breeder of Oliver has not done much to support them. Not even a phone call.  Terri didn't get a phone call or support either, after the sudden death of her puppy. I was consulting with veterinarians and others in our community to find ways to help Oliver, supplements he can take, diets he can try, anything that might help this fabulous puppy and his owner. Ryan did his best to contact the other puppy owners to let them know what was going on. Some are quite upset as they didn't even know about the lack of quality nutrition the litter suffered. Bad things happen in life, beyond our control. How those bad things are dealt with is what matters. I am thankful that both of the breeders I have gotten my dogs from are wonderful people, and always available for support - much like most of you! I know the Rhodesian Ridgeback community of the world is a great and supportive group of people. When I was active in rescue people always stepped up to help dogs they never even met, just because an owner needed help. I am hoping that this gofundme finds its way to people like that, as Ryan should not have to suffer this expense burden, for a dog that should not have this expense burden, and is likely to be an expensive dog to own. Oliver is not even a year old yet!<br />If you made it this far, thank you. I hope this never happens again to anyone else.
