<div>Since covid the market for selling cats as pets has dropped significantly, which has seen a high level of kittens and cats, being surrendered on a daily basis.

<div>The cost of living has also impacted those who cannot afford to look after their cats, pay for vet bills or neuter, meaning that cats and kittens are being giving up, to no fault of their own.
</div>

<div>With major rescues struggling to get cats and kittens into safety, a group of fantastic individuals from Byfleet have decided to set up a crowd fund to help ease the pressure, especially as the winter set in.
</div>

<div>Though at the moment this is not an official charity, there are a number of a people happy to take in lost cats and kittens, and help them to either be re-united, give them a safe and secure space to stay, vet treatments, food etc.
</div>

<div>We welcome donations like food and woodchip, but we do require monetary donations to help us feed, provide security and medication for these little babies.
</div>

<div>Every penny helps, and all monies that are distributed to individual cases will be published on the private Facebook Group and on a website page that we are currently in the midst of setting up.

Cats & kittens in Byfleet and surrounding areas

<strong>A group of dedicated local Byfleet residents are raising funds to save the Victorian fire station in Byfleet and we need your help!</strong><br /><br /><strong>Our aim</strong><br /><br />The old Fire Station has stood in Byfleet for over 135 years and is one of the village’s last remaining historic buildings. Now a team of local residents and your local Councillor Amanda Boote have come together to try to safeguard this much-loved but neglected location for future generations.   We are aiming to raise £300,000 to buy, restore and bring this building back to life for the community.  We are asking for £250,000 from Surrey County Council via their Your Fund initiative and we would like to show them we mean business by also raising £50,000 via a crowd funding event.  We will also be applying for other community grants and approaching local companies to support us.<br /><br /><strong>History</strong><br /><br />The Fire Station was built in 1885 by Sir John Whittaker Ellis. The first brigade was manned by volunteers from the local community, and the building served the Byfleet area, latterly as part of Surrey’s fire service, until the early 1960s. The building is a rare example of a Victorian brick-built fire station, is Grade II Listed and within Woking Borough Council’s Byfleet Conservation Area.<br /><br /><strong>What we plan to do</strong><br /><br />The Byfleet Fire Station Trust has been formed and is fundraising to acquire and restore the building.  Once the Building is restored, safe and fit for use, the purpose of the building will be to provide a community hub for all ages and abilities to use for events and activities and encouraging environmental and sustainability initiatives in the community.  <br /><br /><strong>THE HUB @ BYFLEET FIRE STATION <br /></strong><br />This space will hold a range of calendar activities managed by The Byfleet Fire Station Trust. Pop-up activities in the space will include educational and hobby-based workshops such as pop up art galleries, IT repair hubs, community health and advice bureaus, bicycle repair hubs, craft workshops and pop-up craft/vintage markets just to name a few. We will also carry out entertainment evenings such as cinema nights, comedy nights and history exhibitions. A coffee shop will be incorporated into the business plan. <br /><br /><strong>As a Community Hub, we want to tackle the following local issues</strong><br /><br />Be a place where all members of the community, regardless of gender, age, race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or any other difference, can work together for pleasure. Save Byfleet Fire Station

Last year we sadly lost our great friend Steve Robson,  who we have all known since we were just kids. We were in schools together, clubs together and we eventually drank in the pubs together. We have all seen each other grow to be married and raise families over the years, so for us all to lose such a kind and caring man has just been so sad for everyone.<br />We have so many amazing memories of this great man and would like to continue to make more amazing memories with him watching over us.<br /><br />So, we had this idea (or more like a mid life crisis as we now think!) .... to have a day together as mates and do a Tough Mudder whilst  raising money for a good cause.  After speaking to his wife Kimberley we decided to try and raise some money for Mental Health UK. Our event will take place on July 17th, Tough Mudder.<br />Please could you join us in making a difference and donate whatever you can to raise as much money as we can in his memory. Steve Robson’s Tough Mudders

On Sunday 5th March 2017, our dear friend and colleague, Czeslaw Dudek, took part in the Asics Weybridge Sports 10k Run, his first ever timed running event. Unfortunately, he was never able to the finish the race as he collapsed  just 400m before the finish line. <br />He was a loving and caring dad and husband. His sudden death has left his wife and 7 year old daughter in tragic situation and shatter their lives. <br />No amount of money will bring Czeslaw back, but hopefully it will help his family do what ever they need to do.<br /><br />RIP Czeslaw [*]
