Yesterday, 13-year-old Wyatt, a middle school student at L’Anse Creuse Middle School North, and his loving mother Amber were involved in a devastating head-on collision on Groesbeck Highway. Tragically, Amber lost her life in the accident. Amber was a devoted single mother who loved her children more than anything. She worked tirelessly to provide for them and was their constant source of love, strength, and support.

<div> Wyatt is currently in critical care at Children’s Hospital in Detroit. He has suffered two broken legs, a broken femur, broken ribs, a broken jaw, internal bleeding, and a brain bleed. He is facing multiple surgeries and an incredibly long road to recovery. Wyatt’s sister, Olivia, was thankfully not in the vehicle at the time of the accident and was safe with a friend. While we are so grateful she was spared physically, she is now facing the unimaginable loss of her mother and watching her brother fight for his life. No child should have to endure this kind of heartbreak.

<div>Holden was a beautiful, bright, 15 year old young man with an entire world in front of him. He had a love for engineering and small animals. Even as a young boy, he was always trying to come up with inventions to make our lives easier. He'd raid his grandfather's garage and pick up various light bulbs, springs, and wires. He built robots, rocket ships to Mars, and even had worked out a way to stop COVID.

<div>As a teen, he spun those interests into robotics, joining his school team - Lightning Robotics. He was truly happy when he was inventing things.

<div>We lost him on December 17, 2024 to a tragic accident. This fundraiser's goal is to donate funds to his team to help them with expenses for future competitions.
</div>

<div>At the time of Holden’s passing his team was working hard to replace lost funding which had been provided through corporate sponsorships in the past but has dried up in recent times. Usually they have more than $60,000, which is used for supplies and getting the team to competitions requiring entry fees, travel and lodgings for team members. This year they are far behind, not even at $40,000 so far. Our goal is to help the team for this year and beyond.

<div>Nate was unfortunately one of the victims of the recent shooting on MSU's campus. Miraculously, Nate is still with us, but has been critical condition in the hospital since last Monday. Doctors have informed us that his path to recovery will be a long and difficult one.

<div>I come to you with a heavy heart to share a story about a beloved Global Spartan, my roommate John Hao. John, a twenty-year-old international student from China, was shot in the back and critically injured during the mass shooting on the Michigan State University campus on February 13. As his close friend and roommate for the past three years, I have seen firsthand the impact of this tragedy on his life and that of his family. His parents from China are mentally crushed and traveled to Michigan to see him without being able to speak English.

<div>The bullet severed John's spinal cord (t7-t8) and critically injured his lungs, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. As he remains stabilized in the ICU with a breathing tube inserted in his lung, his family is facing significant financial burdens. Due to Covid, they are already in a large amount of debt, and John's critical injuries are adding to the pressure on the family, leaving their parents not only to pay the debt in the future but also need to take care of John without having any income, since they are in the US without speaking any English.

<div>John is a beloved member of our Spartan community, a leader in a student organization, and a passionate sports enthusiast. He always go to home games of detroit pistons, and his favorite player is James Harden. He is never able to drive to state parks to look at the stars anymore like he used to, He dreams of travelling the globe and having a career in sports management. However, his ongoing medical and physical needs, will also create a significant financial burden for his family and make it almost impossible to achieve his dreams.

<div>Lupe was one of the victims injured in the recent attack at Michigan State University. While we are happy that Lupe remains with us, we are devastated by the violence that has impacted so many. This unfortunately includes our family.

<div>Lupe is a current Hospitality Business junior at MSU and student in the Michigan State University College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP). She is a leader in the community and beyond. Lupe is incredibly hard-working, focused, and ambitious, choosing a career path that's never been explored in our family. It allows her to travel, learn, and challenge herself. She's always one to stand up for our community and speak out for those marginalized voices like our own.

Funeral Expenses for Beloved "Pa" - Harry Hill

<div>Hi, I am asking for support for my brother and his family. I am April Calkovsky, and my brother Tony Burge and his wife Kristie Stephens Burge suffered a massive loss on September 7, 2022. At 1:30 AM, their home erupted in flames. Thankfully Tony was able to get all five children, his wife, and the family dog out safely.

<div>The home, a 3- bedroom ranch and its contents are a total loss, including a new-to-them truck that was their only family vehicle able to transport all of them at once. The homeowner's insurance covers the structure of the home, not the contents.

<div>The children are Keegan, age 11, Jake and Liam age 10, Luke age 5, and Kasey age 4. Keegan, Jake, Liam, and Luke all started school on Thursday, despite the recent tragedy, to give them stability and structure. Kasey keeps up her happy demeanor despite the displacement to a nearby hotel, coloring in her My Little Pony coloring book and asking millions of questions as curious 4-year olds do. The family dog, Jax, is a German Shepherd/Akita mix and is definitely stressed but still protecting his pack and providing comfort to the kids.

<div>My brother is an extremely dedicated and hard-working father. Despite a demanding career, he has always prioritized his family and never asked for much from others. Tony is a self-made man - a country kid, farm-raised and mechanically inclined with the mind of both an engineer and a scholar without the formal education. He is a brilliant father, husband, brother, and son - his family is the center of his world. His wife is a dedicated mother and a nail technician. She also has three grown daughters, two of whom still had items in the family home.

<div>I've been friends with Christina for over a decade. That entire time, Silas has been the light of her life, they’re best friends. Before Dan, it was just the two of them, and when Christina wasn’t working and Silas wasn’t in school, they spent all their time together. Because of that, he’s really not your typical eleven year old, he’s more mature. He’s also intuitive, empathetic, sweet, loving, and even though he seems older sometimes, he’s still a goofy kid that can make anyone laugh.

<div>When Christina met Dan I was so happy for her. And Silas. She’d been a single mom ever since Silas was a baby. Silas loves Dan so much, anyone can see what a special relationship they have. Silas finally had two best friends! Dan and my husband Michael also have a lot in common, they both play tabletop games, so we easily all became friends, we often enjoy barbecues and game nights together. For a while it was nothing but great times.

<div>During the height of the pandemic, Christina and Dan did what so many other people did, they made the decision to not let COVID slow down their lives. They got married. They had their second kid, Elena, on June 2nd 2021, and everyone was so happy. Silas is the best big brother. Right away he was offering to watch her, to help entertain her, and he can’t seem to get enough cuddles with her. Life was perfect.

<div>A month after Elena was born, Silas started to complain of weakness in his left hand. The University of Michigan pediatric hospital is one of the best in the country, and not that far from us. They did the right thing, and took him there. It’s been a long diagnostic road that included a number of stays, neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, lumbar punctures, CT scans, MRIs, and finally a brain biopsy. Roughly two months after the first stay in the hospital, they got a diagnosis. It’s a rare presentation of a Glioblastoma called Gliomatosis Cerebri. An aggressive brain tumor. There is no cure, and there are very few long term survivors.

<div>No one can really imagine seeing their child go through painful procedures and hospital stays. No cancer is easy, especially for a child. Kids can be brave, but what he will go through would be terrifying even for an adult. Christina and Dan have told me just a little of what Silas has gone through so far, and I knew I had to do what I could to help. This is just the beginning. Silas is going to need full time care, so Christina has already quit her job. Silas is going to miss a bunch of school, so he’ll need tutors. Silas is going to need 5 days a week of radiation, physical therapy, and occupational therapy, so they’ll be spending hours in the car. They need help.
