<div>As we celebrate the 200th birthday of Jericho Town Library's building, we are asking for your help to preserve and strengthen our beloved library for generations to come!

<div>In 1825, our building started its life as a school called Jericho Academy. Over the last two centuries, it has served our town as a center of learning and community, with the library moving into the building in 1925. In the 1950s, the building was almost demolished in order to create space to pave and widen Browns Trace. Recognizing its important role in the community, as well as its value as a historic building, a group of committed citizens worked to save the library, ultimately putting it on logs and using horses to relocate the building to its current home on Jericho Center Circle.

<div>Just as it did 70 years ago, Jericho Town Library desperately needs the love and support of its community. While the building is in remarkable shape for its age, we need to make several critical structural repairs to the foundation, attic, cupola, and porch. We plan to incorporate these repairs into our work to make our beautiful building accessible to all Vermonters.

<div>Enwa is originally from the troubled area of Eastern Congo. He arrived in the United States in 2011 after 14 years in refugee camps in Tanzania and Mozambique. He came as a single father with 10 dependents, including two orphan girls he agreed to bring as their legal guardians. His wife died shortly before they left Mozambique in a car accident. For 11 years Enwa has worked steadily at City Market in Burlington.

<div>He remarried a few years ago to a wonderful woman named Alzira (who also works at City Market). His family members are now American citizens, with one daughter in college.

<div>Enwa has been renting the same house in Winooski, Vermont for the past 11 years. The fire destroyed everything, including bedding, clothing, furniture, kitchen appliances, television, phones, computers, etc. Unfortunately, he did not have renter's insurance.

<div>Any funds raised will be used to replace these items burned in the fire, and to help Enwa secure new rental housing (not easy in the Burlington-Winooski market).

She’s a self-employed yoga instructor who has volunteered countless hours to local youth and charitable organizations, teaching yoga at summer camps as well as volunteering and fundraising for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. Her specialized training in yoga, martial arts, and movement has allowed her to work with private clients, veterans, children, and those recovering from injuries or surgeries. Since 2016, Jess has also had the honor of working as the yoga instructor for the New Orleans Saints.

<p>Hi, my name is Nathan and I am putting together this go fund me to help out a family that is dear to me and many of us in the Burlington VT community. Mollie, Cy, Xavier, Zoe and Lillie need our help.

<p>Mollie's Batchelder's youngest daughter Zoe who is 9, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in early July 2021. She had a successful surgery to remove the tumor at the Dartmouth Medical Center immediately after detection, and is now in Boston at a rehabilitation center. There is a long road ahead of rehab and radiation/chemo treatment that will all take place in Boston. Mollie has had to move to Boston near the center where Zoe is being treated, meaning leaving her job here in Burlington and her three other children with her loving parents. There have been and will continue to be massive expenses for the family commuting back and forth, and supporting Zoe's recovery. Mollie is an incredible mother raising her 4 kids on her own and needs our help. I am hoping the BA community and others as well will step up and help raise money to offset the financial burdens this family is facing so they can concentrate on helping Zoe heal.

Let's help Mollie and her family

2020 hasn’t been a good year for anyone. For Karen Robair, it’s been even tougher. A selfless lifelong Burlington resident, mother, and volunteer, Karen was recently diagnosed with advanced bladder cancer. To say it’s bad would be an understatement. <br /><br /><br />Karen is known throughout Burlington as the manager of Shalom Shuk, or the Marketplace of Peace, Ohavi Zedek Synagogue’s thrift shop serving the local community and dedicated to helping new Americans and the underprivileged. Karen goes above and beyond in this role; picking up clothes from around the city, reaching out to folks in need, making care packages and knowing her regulars by name. Shalom Shuk is a lovely, welcoming place to shop because Karen has made it so. <br /><br /><br />Karen and her husband, Gary, have raised six kids between the two of them, with two young ones still at home. Coaching baseball, volunteering as Silent Angels and assisting with various nonprofits around Burlington, both are known for their generosity and friendliness. Born in Burlington, Karen studied Business Management at Champlain College and started at Shalom Shuk in 2015. <br /><br /><br />“I am looking at 6 months at least before I can return to my beloved store,” says Karen. Diagnosed with aggressive urothelial carcinoma stage 3 cancer, she’ll be doing six rounds of chemo followed by an intrusive 14 hour surgery.  Karen will have life long complications from the cancer. “Getting sick,” she says, “is not for the poor.” Considering some of the medicine she has to take is $980, that’s no exaggeration.  <br /><br /> <br /><br />All funds will go to support Karen and her family at this time of uncertainty. So far, there have been complications with receiving disability, so times have been doubly difficult. <br /><br /><br />Finally, Karen would like to remind everyone to please continue to shop and donate to Shalom Shuk! Lily and Joseph Ianaconi have been so excited to know that they are expecting their first child, a baby boy, in May of 2020.  Early in pregnancy, Baby Ianaconi seemed to be developing well. However, after an anatomy scan, it was discovered that  Baby Ianaconi has a  <a href="https://chw.org/medical-care/fetal-concerns-center/conditions/infant-complications/congenital-pulmonary-airway-malformation" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">CPAM</a>  (a mass), and at that time, it seemed to only affect one lung. <br /><br />Since December, Lily and Joe, both public school music teachers, have been traveling once a week to Burlington, VT in order to have weekly scans of Baby Ianaconi's lungs to monitor the CPAM at UVM Hospital. This mass is considered extremely rare, but it is something that the UVM team has seen before and they were in great hands.  The mass stabilized and even shrunk in size.  In early March, they went for their normal scans and the doctors noticed an abnormality in the baby's other lung.  UVM wasn't sure what was going on and they were sent to Boston Children's Hospital. After a day of tests including an MRI, ekg and consultation with the head of surgery and radiology, they were given a diagnosis. A second mass was discovered in Baby's other lung. After a great deal of research it has been determined by the hospital that a case like this has never been seen before in any US or European Hosptial. Lily and Joe were advised to temporarily move to Boston on April 1 in order to give their baby a chance at life.  Lily and the baby are currently being closely monitored, and at any moment Lily may have to be induced so they have the available resources to care for the baby. When born,  Baby Ianaconi will immediately have to be placed on an ECMO and then undergo an extensive surgery. This surgery is extremely risky, as they may have to remove the left lung entirely. Baby will require significant medical intervention in order to survive. <br /><br />In addition to leaving their home in Malone, NY, they will have to find the means to live in Boston for an undetermined amount of time, and face medical expenses associated with these circumstances. Going through this experience during a pandemic is only creating a more challenging circumstance for them. <br /><br />In spite of all that they are facing, Lily and Joe have become incredibly positive and strong parents. Lily and Joseph have devoted their lives to helping educate the young minds of tomorrow. They spend their time working extensively in their schools and community. They have shown their students that even in the darkest of times, the world can be a lot brighter with the power of music.  Now, it’s our turn to show them the power of hope, the power of a miracle, and the power of love. <br /><br />We know this is an unprecedented time for many people given the spread of Covid-19 virus, and the resulting economic impact. Hope for Baby Ianaconi

Bell}<br /><br /><em>Why, you might ask?</em><br /><br />At the time it was for the opportunity to see what might come of her life if she did the work that made her heart sing. Jennifer loves the power of stories and how a personal experience shared could help another endure their own challenges. After all, it was the story of Larissa and other women she met while working with BCRF that helped her reconnect with the person her younger self wished she’d become.<br /><br />Having an extensive amount of experience traveling solo internationally and extremely passionate about taking the path less traveled (literally), she had what it took to take on the challenges the trip would require. Furthermore, it had been her job for over a decade to listen and capture the stories of other people.<br /><br />What she did not expect was how a 4x4 “road trip” around the country and the people she would meet would re-shape her life. How the road actually disappearing on more than one occasion would be the lesson of a lifetime. Mackenzie Anastasia Ruston “Kenzie”, age 17, beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, teammate and friend, passed away suddenly on January 4, 2016 near Alpine, WY.<br /><br />Born in Chapel Hill, NC on January 5, 1998, Kenzie was a senior at East Chapel Hill High School. She most recently fulfilled her dream of earning her private pilot’s license.<br /><br />On the cusp of a brilliant future, Kenzie’s life centered on her passions: family, friends, jump rope and flying. She was a 13-year member and current co-captain of the <a href="http://www.bouncingbulldogs.org" target="_blank">Bouncing Bulldogs Jump Rope Team</a> , to which she dedicated her heart and soul. Kenzie earned global respect and admiration as a hard working, talented, disciplined and humble athlete. She was deeply committed to being a mentor and a positive influence to young people. Kenzie lived more in her 17 years with us than most do in a lifetime.   <br /><br />An adventurous spirit, Kenzie excelled at whatever she committed her heart to: jump rope, flying, snow skiing, water skiing, tennis. Her coach called her one of the greatest jumpers in the world: a 7-time Grand National Jump Rope Champion and a 5-time World Jump Rope Champion. She was eagerly awaiting her 18th birthday to experience her first skydiving lesson.<br /><br />Kenzie was a young person of great humility beyond her years, a quiet leader respected and loved by her peers and a great friend to all who knew her. Her love of family and friends, boundless energy and community service are her legacy. <br /><br /> The world lost one of its brightest stars and Kenzie’s influence will remain in all those she touched. Honor Kenzie Ruston's Legacy

<strong>The Champlain Voices Record Project: Recorded, Pressed, and Celebrated all on Pine Street!</strong><br /><br />The Champlain Voices Record Project started as a collaboration between the fourth and fifth grade team, Music Teacher Betsy Greene, and the <a href="http://www.burlingtonrecordplant.com/" target="_blank">Burlington Record Plant</a> . The idea was to take our favorite songs and orginal music and turn them into a record! <br /><br />As the project progressed our entire school community became involved. Fourth and fifth grade students surveyed each grade level at Champlain to determine their favorite songs. They then researched copyright laws and selected 2 songs for every grade. In addition, fourth and fifith graders created original compositions. These songs were then recorded by a professional during a school-wide day devoted to music! The album has now been mixed, mastered and is now ready to be sent to the record plant for pressing.  <br /><br /><strong>We need your help!</strong> <br />Our goal is for EVERY Champlain family to recieve a copy of the record. That means we need to press 300 albums!<br /><br /><strong>We have three levels to donate at:</strong><br />Gold Record: $5<br />Platinum Record: $10<br />Diamond Record: $20<br />Executive Producer: $50 and up! <br /><br />Each donation will be recognized with your name and level of donation on a paper record in the school lobby. We hope to fill the lobby! Executive Producers will also be thanked at our record release party at <a href="http://www.artsriot.com/" target="_blank">Arts Riot</a> in May.<br /><br /><strong>Please consider donating so that every family will be able to recieve this recording of the voices of their children!</strong>

Champlain Voices Record Project

We need your support and generosity to help us achieve our goal of opening Full Circle Preschool in September 2017! <br /><br />Our plan is to create an early education program in the Burlington area that embraces an emergent curriculum and celebrates each child through interest-based play provocations, inviting environments, and strong community involvement. <br /><br />Your donation will help design an inspiring learning environment for children by allowing us to find the right location for the preschool. In addition, your donation will help offset the expense of classroom furniture and learning materials that will support an enriching environment where children can grow and explore.<br /><br />As early educators in a field that is rapidly evolving, we feel compelled to continue our journey as lifelong learners and early educators through a program that transforms our vision into a reality. We believe strongly in creating a diverse preschool community that fosters a rich variety of knowledge, creativity, and cultural visions among children, families, and teachers.  <br /><br />We are currently searching for a house that will be converted into a licensed preschool program available for children ages two months to five years in a home-based environment. We hope to reach our goal by February 2017, so that Full Circle Preschool may open for enrollment in September 2017. <br /><br />We are so thankful for our community and the support that we continue to receive. Full Circle Preschool Startup

On Friday, January 23rd, our good friends at St John Brewers watched as their brewpub of eight years, The Tap Room, was slowly destroyed by fire on St. John in the Virgin Islands. Now, one week later, they have assessed the damage and the physical damage is irreparable and the emotional impacts are just being realized. The outpouring of support and help since the fire have made Kevin and Cheech realize that as bad as things are, they are extremely lucky to live in a place where everyone seems to put the needs of others before their own. The gratitude and appreciation they have for those that have helped on the island is heartwarming to hear. For as many people that have been able to support and help in some way, there are an equal or greater amount of people that are looking for ways to get these guys back on their feet. As you may know, Kevin and Cheech are always the first to donate their time, energy, and resources to anyone and everyone with a worthy cause. If there’s ever a time that a friend is in need, they are there for whatever support they can provide, no questions asked. Now they are in need and it’s time for us to reciprocate and help them as they work through this challenging time. I ask for you to make a small monetary gift that will go directly to their account. There is no gift too small and I definitely know they are going to be overwhelmed at the generosity we’re going to demonstrate with our efforts.
