<div>It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the sudden and tragic loss of Elsa McGrain. A beloved daughter, friend, student, athlete, and sister, Elsa’s bright future was cut short by a hit-and-run driver on November 6, 2025, at just 20 years old.

<div>Elsa was a pre-med student at the University of Kansas, a talented soccer player, and a devoted member of her sorority, Chi Omega, where she served on the executive board.

<div>On the evening of November 6, while out jogging near Lawrence Regional Airport in Kansas, Elsa was struck by a hit-and-run driver. The driver fled the scene, and Elsa’s body was not discovered until early the next morning.

<div>The shock to her family, friends, KU community and beyond is profound.

<div>In the wake of this unimaginable loss, Elsa’s family now faces not only the deepest grief and the many ripple effects of losing someone so young and full of promise.

<div>Hi, my name is Joe. I have never been the type of guy to ask people for help on my own behalf, but I would do anything for my family, so here we are! I have an amazing wife, a 5 yr old son, 2 year old toddler, and another baby on the way. I had a brain bleed in a very delicate area of my brain - against the stem. We learned that this is a stroke, and if you know me, I’m young and active, lifting weights 5 days a week religiously so this came as a huge shock. The doctors describe it as a cavernoma, which is an irregular mass of red blood cells. Some people have these and it never bleeds. But if it does, like mine, it is likely to re-bleed (which it has done) and could cause more serious damage. This happens to be located on my brain stem and would require a very risky surgery. The funds will help with my hospital stay, many head CTs and MRIs, the cost of brain surgery, and the cost of being out of work while I recover. Please consider helping with this cause monetarily or by prayers, and thank you to everyone in our lives who has already helped so much.

Joe’s brain surgery expenses

<p>Kynlee was lifelighted to Blank Children’s hospital on July 12th after being intubated on the side of the interstate. She was in respiratory and cardiac distress. During her 7 1/2 week stay at Blank Kynlee was re-trached and still on a vent, her heart was shocked twice to get out of Atrial Flutter, two chest tubes, she started having seizures, countless labs/X-rays, started having GI issues, g/j tube placed &amp; she was newly diagnosed with liver disease and a rare autoimmune disorder. On 9/02 Kynlee was transferred by ambulance to Children’s in Omaha in order to see the GI clinic (they are known for helping with difficult GI issues) &amp; to see the Pediatric Hepatologist (liver specialist). After 54 days in the PICU, we still don’t really have an end in sight.
