Tyler's Running Fund
Thank you so much for your interest in my amazing son Tyler Daillak. Ty is a vivacious 10 year old 5th grader at Bauer Speck Elementary in Paso Robles, CA who has a passion for running! Ty was diagnosed on the Autism spectrum at an early age, and has always been overflowing with energy. We were fortunate enough to get Ty involved in the Cross Country and Track&Field programs that were provided by his school district. Through those programs Ty has been able to harness all his extra energy and use it constructively in his running. Over the last 2 years, Ty has progressed his running to competing in 5k races, the vast majority of which he has won for his age group! If it was up to Ty, he would run a race every weekend! Ty is currently involved in the USA Track and Field Cross Country Junior Olympics. He has recently placed 5th in the 3000m race in the Pacific Association Championship on 11/19/17, and placed 4th in the Regional Championship on 11/26/17. Ty also ran in the National Championship meet in Tallahassee, FL on 12/9/17 and placed 76th out of a field of about 400 of the country's best runners. Crazy to think how far he's come in such a short time! Nothing makes me happier than to see my little guy so proud and smiling from ear to ear after finishing a race! However, with an average $25-30 entry fee for each 5k run, costs for gas, and now additional costs for traveling to his Junior Olympic events, all these things have proven to be quite expensive. For example, the airfare, hotels, and car rental for Ty and I at Tallahassee event has cost more than $2500! Despite the costs, I hope to keep Ty running and sharing those big smiles, amazing achievements, and acting as a positive example for other kids in his situation for as long as possible! I would greatly appreciate any help I can receive to keep him going! Thank you for your help!!! Tyler killed it at the 2018 Heart and Soles 5k run at Laguna Lake! While checking in, we asked about the course since we were worried Ty would get lost on the convoluted path. The race director informed us that there will be lots of fast runners from local running clubs that will be leading the pack, and that he should just follow them. When we replied that Ty is pretty fast and usually leads the pack she laughed and said if the guys got beat by a 10 year old they would never hear the end of it! Well, Ty just beat all of them and finished 1st OVERALL!!!! He just keeps blowing everyone's mind!!!
OK, now for some new news! Tyler just ran the 2018 Pismo Pier to Plunge run on New Years Day! There were 339 other runners of all ages. Even though he's just 10, he ran in the 12-18 age group and placed 1st!!! He was also 10th OVERALL!!! What a great way to start the new year!!!
Well, he was able to fight through the nausea and ran his little heart out in the freezing cold! Not only did Ty do great by just running it and finishing with such a sour stomach, he even set a new PR at 11:37.00! He ended up placing 76th out of a field of around 400 of the nations best runners. Who knows how he would have done if he was at full strength! I still can't believe it! So proud!!!!
Sorry it took so long to post the update on the 2017 USATF Cross Country National Championships. Soooo...It's was kind of a rough trip getting to Florida. Our flight was almost canceled due to inclement weather flying into/out of Atlanta from "Winter Storm Benji". We did make it, but the turbulence was so rough that Tyler got really airsick.
