Tyler's German Studies @ Middlebury

Donation protected

I've never been good at asking for help, but I know I can't get where I want to be in my career and life without the help of those around me, so thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for giving. Anything and everything makes a difference, and I sincerely appreciate the donation.

The tuition for Middlebury Language School German for Singer's program is $9,000(+). Through 7 weeks of strict adherence to a required language pledge, I will only be reading, writing and conversing in German while earning NINE college credits (semester hours). This program will help me meet the requirements for my minor in German at the University of Cincinnati. This experience will also make me proficient enough so I may audition and study at the school of my choice in Austria or Germany for graduate school. Two of these schools I dream about attending, but I need an Intermediate 2 level (B2 certification), one level before advanced (C1), and am currently at a B1 level (Intermediate 1). One more to go! Middlebury will give me the immersion, tools, and experience with German I need to do very well on my proficiency certification. I was given a small grant by the Kade Foundation in New York, but I am not at all able to afford the entire cost of the program even with that gracious gift. This is an expensive program, but it includes food, sleeping arrangements, classes, a community, and activities.

Brief Resume:

I am a sophomore, Vocal Performance major, at The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, attending with an honor's scholarship. I have performed two roles since I've been here: Talbot, Maria Stuarda. The Vicar, Albert Herring. I also made my opera debut as Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro in Cortona, Italy under a scholarship granted by Oberlin Conservatory in 2015. In the summer of 2016, I was accepted into and participated in masterclasses at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg under the direction of Helmut Deutsch, Cheryl Studer, and Helen Donath. During my studies at the High School for the Performing Arts (HSPVA) in Houston, I was awarded a first prize university scholarship by a Houston Grand Opera panel at Rice University and was named a finalist with the National YoungArts foundation in Miami. The National Foundation for the Arts nominated me, and I soon became a semi-finalist U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts as a senior in high school.

I do hope you decide to give, and please know I am so thankful to all of my beautiful mentors, friends and colleagues who help me to become the artist I dream of being. I could not do it without you all, and for this, I am forever in debt and gratitude.
