Tylers Transplant Recovery

Donation protected

Tylers story to a kidney transplant began just days after he was born, he was diagnosed with VACTERL Syndrome. This disorder most people have never heard of because according to the National Organization of Rare Disease 1.6 per 10,000 babies are effected.

VACTERL is a acronym, where each letter represents a part of the disorder:

V: vertebral abnormalities
A: anal atresia
C: cardiac  (heart) defects
TE: tracheal-esophageal abnormalities
R: renal (kidney) & radial abnormalities
L: limb abnormalities
S: single umbillical artery

Tyler is almost effected by all the letters. The one that has recently caused Tyler the most pain and suffering is the (R) renal abnormalities.
Tyler had renal aplasia and vesicoureteral reflux, which is where he was born with one kidney and because of abnormal backflow of urine, it resulted in complete kidney failure in 2013.

About 4 years ago Tyler began missing parts of his days, waking up on the floor, and eventually figuring out he was having siezures.  When they went to the doctor they came back with a complete surprise,  they told Tyler his only kidney was not working. The reason he was having siezures was his kidney was not filtering toxins out of his body, resulting in grand mal siezures.  He than quickly got transferred to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He had to soon quit his job and persuing education, because physically he could not do eiether. His physicians told him his best chance at life was to go on dialysis 3 times a week for the rest of his life, they also agreed the best outcome could be a kidney transplant.
Watching Tyler come to grips with his life threatening illness was extremely hard to watch. Even worst dealing with the side effects of treatments and dialysis we're extremely stressful at times. The emotional impact that life was short was difficult to witness in someone so young.
For three whole years Tyler began to physically get worst, almost being hospitalized monthly.

On 4/23 thats when Tyler got a call that he had a kidney waiting for him in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On the car ride there Tyler cried, not only was he scard and happy, but also sad because he couldn't shake the thought that someone lost there life to save his. Tyler was told his transplant was high risk because the donar past of brain cancer. There could be a small risk that Tyler could one day get it to, but Tyler chose to take that risk. After transplant Tyler was wheeled to the ICU (intensive care unit) where he proceeded to get medicine pumped into his body to lower his immunity to nothing so that his body wont reject his new kidney.
Tyler is now working hard to have a full successful recovery. He hardly complains and pushes himself knowing there is a potential better life waiting for him around the corner. Despite his health Tyler has continued to push forward and dream of what a life he could eventually have. Tyler wants to one day be able to finish and continue his education and travel the world he so desperately wants to see.

Already burdened financially before transplant, Tyler is facing extra expenses that were not covered by insurance.
Tyler gets concerned about the people in his life, knowing they have sacrificed for years due to his illness. He knows with support of others the emotional and financial toll will be smaller.

St. Johns in Tulsa Oklahoma, a state a way from home, they will monitor him for a year +. He now is living in transplant housing so they can monitor him more than a few times a week and be close to the hospital if there are any complications.
Donations will help Tyler with expenses, medical expenses, home alterations. Just about anything to accommodate Tyler in his journey to recovery.

Tyler is incredibly grateful for any donation, share, and prayers for a safe and easy recovery.

Summery of the above:
Tyler recieved a call telling him he had recieved a Kidney offer, we are now currently beginning recovery a state away from home. Tyler realizes how fortunate he is to be given this second chance on life. We are hoping if enough support moving closer to the hospital. Day by day brings on new challenges. This is a very exciting new adventure for our family, but were up for the challenge.
Transplants come with complication and the unknown, but we have confidence that with support we can make this transition as easy as possible.
When Tyler gets discharged we will need to be in close proximity to the hospital. Our major expenses during this time will be residence, transportation, and any medical expenses not covered.

We have much love and thanks for anyone willing to read our story.
