A student started a new school and didn't feel like she had any friends.  Her go to was the swings, but at her new school there were no swings.
The student shared her concern with her older sister who was in 4th grade.  The 4th grader thought about it, mentioned it to her friends, and during her 5th grade year it was brought up again.  By now the students felt welcome at the school, but there was still a concern for those that were new that year.
The 5th grade student shared her thoughts with friends again, and the friend helped her talk to the Counselor at the school and share their thoughts and concerns for students.
The Counselor thought it was a great idea and decided to help these students with their dream.
This group of 5th grade students met each week to find the product they liked, to find out about insurance needs, what the needs were for the grounds, and pricing.  As all things going through multi levels - it took over a year to get things okayed.  These students are now in 6th grade and are still fighting for the Buddy Bench (bench students can sit on that signifies that they need a buddy to play with) and something new for the playground (swings got nixed this year due to insurance cost - but didn't dampen their spirits).  The students recognisze they are aging out of elementary and won't get to use the new playground equipment as much as the younger kids, but are doing all they can to raise money for their project.
These students volunteer their time EVERY week for a meeting to see where they are and discuss students who may need friends, and also make sure the "school store" they run as a fund raiser is staffed each Tuesday of the week.
Let's help these amazing kids make their dream to help OTHER STUDENTS come true!
The youth that will be runing our country in the future are AMAZING!!!
All funding will go towards their buddy bench and playground equipment.

Why $5,000 and not $500?
The students initially wanted to put in swings with the buddy bench (we have two campuses and they wanted to be able to do both), they were told they could the first year- but then insurance came back and said the cost to cover having swings is too high (which is why a lot of schools don't have swings anymore) so the girsl decided they would buy do something else to put on the playground. These run thousands of dollars.
On top of the price of a new piece of equipment, the ground has to be dug (we have volunteers who have said they will do this for us), we have to buy enough wood chips/ground cover to meet code - and have the equipment installed. Ideally they would like to do this at both school campuses - but depending on how much they earn, they may just do it at the one.
