Artists in classrooms!

Donation protected
The Whidbey Island Art Council (non-profit 501-C-3) seeks funding to support an Artist in Residence (AiR) program that matches local professional artists with K-12 classroom teachers on Whidbey Island, Washington. Partnerships are intended to augment curriculum lessons and/or create original performance projects. Participating artists have expertise in a specific art discipline/or disciplines and are experienced in working with students of all ages. In collaboration with a classroom teacher, these artists are eager to help students understand how Art ideas and skills may be incorporated into a broad range of learning opportunities across the curriculum. A residency consists of curriculum-based arts integration in any of the following Art disciplines:
Visual Arts
Creative Movement/Dance,
Music,
Theatre,
Storytelling,
Literary Arts, and
Cultural Arts.

Each artist/teacher partnership involves 20hrs of artist/student contact time. Funds are allocated to pay participating artists $25/hr, participating teachers are awarded $100 for planning and evaluation, and a $100 for necessary art supplies.  A $100 fee per partnership is assessed by WIAC for coordination and program promotion.

$10,000 will fund 12 partnerships in the 2015-2016 school year. For more specifics, go to-
