Twin Peaks Charter OM World Finals P2D2 Team

Tax deductible
Odyssey of the Mind is an international extra-curricular problem-solving program for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity, problem-solving skills, team building skills and critical thinking to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. Coaches and parents are not allowed to help, encouraging students to use their own creative energy to solve problems.

The Twin Peaks Charter Academy Division 2 Technical Performance (P2) Team earned first place at the regional tournament in March, first place at the state tournament in April, and now has been invited to compete at the global level alongside 800 teams from 26 countries at Michigan State University from May 22-26.  These six young scholars were tasked with the challenge of designing a robotic creature that changed appearance 4 times and performed 3 tasks all without direct human power. The team creates all of their props and performance on their own without adult or any other outside assistance. Their original design and performance set them aside from the other teams competing.  These kids are 10, 11 and 13 years old!  Imagine what they will do as adults with an experience like the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals to spur them on.

These students are our future engineers, entrepreneurs, paleontologist, chemists, doctors and inventors. Throughout the problem solving process, Odyssey of the Mind students learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts by assessing the composition and strength of materials, designing vehicles and devices, engineering structures, sets and backdrops, and calculating scores, geometry and physics.

Please help to make the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals attainable for these students.  We thank you in advance for supporting STEM elementary and middle school education, and our Odyssey of the Mind team.
