During our retreat, we will be working with the conservationists and researchers at Centro Ecologico Akumal particpating in two full days of service.

Here is an outline of our goals:
GENERAL OUTCOMES
At the end of these two days, teens will come to have an understanding and appreciation for aspects of the field work conducted at the Centro Ecologico Akumal, the importance of monitoring and collecting data and witnessing firsthand the impact humans have on our beaches.
SPECIFIC OUTCOMES
Students will:
· Learn how to conduct beach zoning for the turtle program; it’s importance and purpose
· Collect trash and marine waste on Akumal beaches, categorize the trash, learn the dangers it has on turtles and marine life and attempt to create viable solutions
· Learn why turtle identification is an important monitoring activity and how to conduct the monitoring and analysis themselves through picture ID database.
Our group has commited to raising money to purchase two underwater go pros for the Centro Ecologico Akumal to use in their research for the 2016 season. The money we are raising will be used for that. If you can contribute, even $5, $10, $20 will get us closer to our goals.
If we surpass our goal, we will use the extra money to purchase more supplies for Centro Ecologico Akumal as they are also looking for the following materials:
• red light headlamps with batteries
•fabric measuring tapes
•sharpies to write on nesting stakes that identify nests
•work gloves for turtle nesting and cleaning the nests
