A little background:
The paddle wheel steamboat, Tule Princess, represents the last, full size, functioning, steam powered "Walking Beam" paddle wheeler operating anywhere in the world, and she needs a new home from which to operate.

As only the third Captain in her 32 year history, I am responsible for her care and future operation.  My Crew and I have worked for two years to bring her to San Angelo, Texas and on March 19, 2015, we were blessed and honored to open our little charter/excursion boat business with a goal to share with folks, the story and history of steam transportation.  We also felt the deck of our little steamboat to be an excellent platform to share the history of the Concho River, which forms Lake Nasworthy, and the river's vital role in the growth and success of San Angelo.  Most of all, we hoped to have young people leave our vessel with an understanding and acute appreication for the eco-system, wildlife and beauty in and around our river and lake; as well as, the importance of Water Conservation in our region of West Texas.

Only two months after our opening, a spring thunderstorm blew across the lake with 60mph winds that completely destroyed our original floating dock.  Thankfully, Tule was stored at an alternate location and suffered no damage.  However, we were forced back to the drawing board for a second dock redesign that was a rigid, reinforced stationary dock.  This dock served us well throughout the summer of 2015 and in to 2016.

On February 1st, 2016.  A Canadian cold front, packing sustained winds of 35-40mph winds, once again came out of the NNW, producing gusts over 50mph, building up our lake to 3-5ft swells that lifted our vessel up and slammed her against her dock causing multiple impacts and fracturing one entire section of her dock.

A look to the future:
It has become clearly evident, now facing our third dock  and repair expense, that our little lake can be deceptivly benign.  However,  when the weather comes from the north or northwest, with winds in excess of 30mph, our lake can be dangerous and quite angry indeed.  WE MUST FIND ANOTHER LOCATON FOR OUR STEAMBOAT.

We are seeking funding help to: 1) dismantle our current dock configuration, 2) have it repaired, 3) moved/re-installed at another site on the lake with proper shelter from northern storms, 4) salvage what we can from our current business site's shore operations that can be moved, 5) construction of a new ticket booth at the new site, 6) repair/prime/paint all damage to the vessel itself in time to open for our second season no later than April 1st, 2016

We are a small, family & community invested Company & Crew.  TULE's Captain & her Operations Manager are both full time Elementary School Teachers for nine months of the year.  Our Chief Engineer is a retired Army Helicopter Flight Maintenance Speicalist and our Assistant Chief is a Volunteer Fireman.  Our two young Deckhands are really amazing Highschool Juniors - one a Varsity Baseball Pitcher and one a State Champion in Men's Gymnastics.

Your financial help and generosity will mean the survival of Tule and what she has come to represent in the history of steamboats in America and what she means to the residents of San Angelo & Lake Nasworthy.  Also, you will have the heartfelt gratitude of her Captain and each member of her Crew - eternally!

Tule's Crew is a Family.  Those kind and generous folks that helped us get started, guided us through the hurdles of opening our business, help and advise us even now will always be thought of as family whenever they come aboard.  We sincerely  want you to feel the same sense of family when you consider your generous support.  Please help us reach our goal of finding the Tule Princess a new home.
