Trying to survive as medical costs and needs rise.

Trying to survive amid increasing medical issues and costs. Good morning everyone, DJ has been out of the hospital for 2 weeks now and we are hoping he doesn’t have to go back anytime soon.  During this past hospital visit we were informed that neither his Kidneys nor his Liver have made any improvements in functioning during the past month. DJ was informed that he will need both a Liver and Kidney Transplant.  There are a few things he needs to do in order to get on the list and he is working on those now. For those of you who know DJ you know that he has devoted his life to helping others. He even went so far as to get his master's degree in Social Work. DJ has worked in many different roles as a social worker and has helped so many people through his career. He is one to go the extra mile for you and do everything he can to help find solutions, all while being kind, caring, understanding, and non judgmental. DJ's work is far from over, though he must win the battle first so that he can continue to do so. Currently DJ is receiving Dialysis 3 to 4 days a week in order to address his kidney failure. He has gained 28 lbs of water weight during the past few weeks making mobility and breathing difficult for him. At this point his prognosis is poor, but we are staying positive that things will change for the better. Thanks to the donations we have received, we have been able to improve our transportation situation, though not ideal, it's working for the moment, and we greatly appreciate that. We have also been able to take care of some of our bills, keeping our lights and our water flowing, again we are so grateful! Furthermore, we have also received medical equipment needed to help with the mobility issues through thoughtful and caring donations.  As well as free automotive repair to help ensure DJ is able to get back and forth to Dialysis on a regular basis. At this time though we are slowly falling behind, trying to be as frugal as possible and utilizing as many community resources as possible, however living in a small town doesn't lend us to many resources. DJ is having a great deal of trouble eating due to these conditions and is needing to take supplements and liquid vitamins which the insurance doesn't cover, so he is only afforded these while in the hospital. The doctors and social workers have been trying to help us find assistance however they have been unable to do so. These are important as they are providing the protein, vitamins, and iron sources that his body can currently tolerate and process effectively. He has had to have a few blood transfusions to help with his iron and in hopes of reversing the Anemia. In addition to this our home needs a few improvements such as vinyl flooring in the bedroom soon to be used for in home Dialysis as DJ is requiring more treatments per week, and a ramp for the front stairs. Thank you again to those whom have donated and for those sending prayers and positive energy our way! Any help you are able to provide would be so helpful to us and our family! Thank you!
