True Vision School in Zanzibar
Donation protected
True Vision International school is a locally managed and run school by a very good friend of mine, Marina Avanzi. It's located in the heart of Stone Town, the main city on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The aim of True Vision is to offer children of Zanzibar quality schooling, following an American curriculum. Currently in Zanzibar the teaching style and curriculum offered by public schools is of a basic standard and their biggest challenge is finding good quality teachers. Unfortunately the education level of Primary and Secondary teachers in Zanzibar is poor also, and they are seeking qualified teachers from abroad who are willing to volunteer, as well as paid teachers. However, paid teachers seek a salary, rightly so, therefore the school needs to find funds for their employment in order to attract quality educators.
The school's other goal is to improve the quality of local teachers. Zanzibari classroom teachers are hired to cover all subjects, but they need to be supported by foreigners to ensure requirements are met by local government and in achieving curriculum accreditation. They will be trained at school where they'll be able to learn side by side professionals, and practice through work experience. Both stakeholders will get something out of the collaboration in order to build capacity in education that will benefit the wider community of school children.
Currently True Vision International has employed a qualified teacher, Mr Rajeen from the USA who has been volunteering for the past year. It's people like this who dedicate their time and effort to help others, to create a fun, inspiring environment where children are happy to go and learn. By giving you will be supporting True Vision to help them provide these children with a quality education that they deserve.
- Qualified foreign teacher/s for kindergarten & primary
- Training & on-the-job work experience for local Zanzibari teachers
- A recognized standard curriculum
- A creative and inspiring environment
- Books and stationery
I hope I can count on you to help support this cause!
In return, if you are a qualified teacher or have experience teaching a subject and you would like to go to Zanzibar to volunteer at the school, please contact Marina at Mangrove Lodge ([email redacted]) where she can arrange this wonderful experience for you.
I personally spent 3 months there in 2014 and loved it. Zanzibar is more than just a paradise island that is featured in the glossy travel brochures. It has history, culture and depth and a great need for a good education. If you are interested in knowing more, I would be happy to share my experience personally. Email me at: [email redacted]
We are always looking at ways to help others. That is part of who we are as human beings. I know many of you don't like to make donations to larger non-profit associations because you are unsure where your money goes. I can guarantee that helping this school, the money will be accepted gratiously and will go directly to the school.
Forever thankful or as the locals say 'asante sana',
Bernessa
