Plane Crash Survivor Eric

Eric is our beloved son, brother, uncle, great uncle ("gruncle"), and friend. He's the kind of person who lights up a room with his quick wit, good humor, and enthusiasm. He is a a photographer, and also worked seasonally as a ticket taker at Sugar Bowl Resort in Truckee, CA, where he befriended everyone on the mountain.
On July 17, 2018, Eric was flying out with his husband to take photos of Pyramid Lake in Truckee when their plane crashed near the airport due to an engine failure. Eric was the sole survivor of the crash. He suffered a broken neck, broken ribs, broken leg, as well as extensive nerve and spinal chord damage.
Eric is currently in spinal chord rehabilitation therapy. Once he is discharged, he will need lots of support to live as comfortably and independently as possible, accustoming to a new lifestyle. This includes ongoing medical bills, continuing in-home physical and occupational therapy, and adaptive equipment so that Eric can relearn the actions of daily life and eventually take up his favorite hobbies- from gardening to puzzles- in his newly adapted environment. These costs are not one time expenses- they will last the rest of Eric's life. Eric's insurance is through the state of California, MediCal, and as such provides limited coverage after his discharge from the rehabilitation center. He needs everything we can give.
Eric's presence has graced many people's lives, all of whom no doubt wish to support him on his road to recovery. Whether you are a lifelong friend, or just met Eric on one of his passing adventures, please help spread the word and share his story of survival.
