Wheelchair Van For Trevor!

Donation protected
Anyone who's been lucky enough to meet or spend time with Trevor, knows that he is no ordinary guy! He's got a great attitude about his situation and a sense of humor like no other.

Trevor has Muscular Dystrophy, while he was officially diagnosed only 2 ½ years ago he has been struggling with this horrible disease for years.  MD is a progressive degenerative muscle disease that causes loss of muscle mass at first in the legs and then in the arms, neck, heart and lungs.  At age 16, this disease has progressed so far that Trevor is confined to a wheel chair.

He has handled this situation very well as a sophomore in high school, and the only student in a wheel chair.  He has overcome every obstacle thrown at him, however it has changed our family’s life in ways we never saw coming.  The last several years have seen needs that have been hard to overcome, the simplest of tasks such as taking a shower or a trip out of the house to get haircut or go out to eat, have become huge projects.

Over the last two years we have purchased all of the aids to make things as easy as possible, things like ramps to get in the house, stair lifts, wheelchairs, and shower aids.  All 100% out of our pockets as we have been unable to get any help form state or federal sources. Trevor has lost all ability to walk or support himself and he has been put into a rehab chair, and insurance covered the bulk of the chair but our out of pocket was several thousand dollars.  While Trevor’s new chair is amazing, and is custom to him for the most comfort, it is far too heavy and big to be loaded into the back of our SUV.

A wheel chair van has become a necessity in our lives. Trevor tends to be reluctant to leave the house as he knows how hard it is to transfer him in and out of the car, and is worried that someone might get hurt lifting him.  As we have no way to transport his new chair, he has also been missing more school than necessary because we have to keep him home for the whole day instead of picking him up for appointments. We also need for him to go to his appointments in the rehab chair to make sure it is maintained and adjusted to his needs.

This is where we need your help.  Due to all of the medical bills and equipment Trevor has needed, our credit has taken a bit of a hit.  We have been able to secure financing for a minivan, but the conversion is another story.  Banks do not want to lend on the conversion part of the van, and the one bank that will lend comes in at a monthly financial commitment that is above what we can afford.  Every penny raised will help with covering the conversion and making the van affordable for our family.

You can help by financially contributing and/or by forwarding the link to this GoFundMe site to people within your professional or social network.  The financial need is huge, and we do not know enough people to achieve the fundraising goal on our own!

Thank you for your support!
