Cancer Fighter Loses Home Unexpectedly

On April 19 my family lost our home. After 23 years we were forced to say good bye to our house and everything in it after a huge tree fell through the roof, into my brother and mother's rooms, destroying the kitchen and caving most of the roof in. We were told by the land lord it cannot be repaired and will soon be demolished.

This is just another challenge life has given my family and I.

My mother, Alina Mitchell, was diagnosed with clear cell carcinoma in August 2018. It's a rare form of cancer and it's one of the fastest growing forms of cancers in existence. Although my mother had surgery to remove a large mass, the cancer returned within a month.  Initially she was given months to live and I took it upon myself to take care of her while she goes through chemo and radiation.

My mother is a kind, strong women. She was a victim of domestic abuse which resulted in PTSD and Depression, was diagnosed with this deadly form of cancer and has continued to love and support my brother and I.

My brother, Mitch Mitchell, suffers from schizophrenia and Asperger's, he is in no condition to work and his only form of income is his Social Security checks, which is also used to support my mother.

With my mother needing a loving and supporting environment, I thought it would be best for her to live with me temporarily so I can tend to both of their needs.

This process has been challenging while I am trying to study for exams and start my career. I drive Lyft and Uber to support myself daily.

I'm a University of Florida student who will be graduating next month and have received an internship in Chicago starting in June. I have a very short timeframe of just a month to get my mom and brother settled into a new home, basic household items, food and clothes.

The money will also go towards my mother's medical treatment and supplies.
