Trans Lifeline general fund

$16,975 of $100k goal

Raised by 284 people in 25 months
Greta Gustava Martela  SAN FRANCISCO, CA
Trans Lifeline was launched in September using our own funds. Since then a dedicated network of volunteers have been busy training trans people to do crisis intervention for our own community. While we are currently answering calls with over twenty volunteers we plan to extend our reach with an advertising campaign to make sure that our toll free number is readily available to trans people everywhere. Currently we have filed for 501c3 status and are waiting for approval from the IRS. We have been holding off with fundraising from insitutional donors until we have non profit status. In the meantime we need to keep the hotline funded. This money will let us bridge that gap until the IRS gets back to us with our non profit status. Please give whatever you can!

Thank you! <3

We couldn't have done this without you!

We are moving the goal posts again. We are getting a lot of support and are refocusing on trying to make Trans Lifeline financially stable and something that will be available for future generations. We are so touched by the generosity of the community. We love you!

Update 14

Hello everyone!

I'm pleased to announce that we are now up to forty trained operators! We are as close to answering every call that comes in as is possible. Because of our fundraising success I'm going to be able to attend a much needed Executive Director 101 course! Nina is working day and night on a new call system that should launch in February. With the new system we will be able to sharply reduce call costs as well as offer the technology to other nonprofits that offer crisis lines. I will post a more detailed list of features for the new platform soon! Your donations provided this organization with the momentum that we needed.

Thank you!

Although we've reached our funding goal, this service is growing more rapidly than we could have ever anticipated. We are now working on securing this service for the future and we can still use your help. So far this effort has been 100% volunteers. Now that we have upwards of 400 volunteers we are going to need to start adding full time staff. I started this campaign to simply fund our costs to date, its a testament to the dedication of our supporters that we can now talk about securing this resource for the future.

People with gender dysphoria often face grave problems. They are in need of professional help from psychiatrists or clinical psychologists who will deal with their problems objectively. I cannot support a group of non-professional sufferers of this disorder organizing and intervening in the lives of others because they have politicized the matter and encourage sufferers to view themselves according to political agendas instead of medical therapy. These are non-professionals who have organized for a political agenda to promote the concept that gender dysphoria is not a disorder and that problems faced are because of social stigmatization rather than a medical disorder preventing one from finding well being.

This is so lovely. There is so much discrimination towards people in the LGBT community (inc. me) and mostly people who identify as trans. I really hope you make loads of donations, the money will be well spent xxx
