Thru-Hike of the Appalachian Trail

Hello! My name is Brooke Asbury. I am a 28 year old traveller who has made exploration a life-goal for the past 3 years. It all started when I resigned from my position as an analyst for the State of California in 2014. I took early retirement and bought a one-way ticket to Guatemala. I visited 13 different countries spanning North, Central, South America, and Europe. I returned to the States 11 months later, with the intention of making money and exploring the US.

I moved to Seattle , WA and volunteered for accommodation at the Green Tortoise Hostel and got a full-time gig as a cheesemaker in Pike Place Market. I was working 7 days a week with my sights (and heart) set on the Pacific Crest Trail. On May 3, 2016 I began my 5 month and 21 day journey from Mexico to Canada; completing a continuous footpath of over 2,650 miles. The most amazing thing I have ever done with my life. After completing my hike in late October 2016 I returned to my hometown of Sacramento, CA to see family before setting off to my next city of choice: New Orleans. I am currently volunteering for accommodation and working at a gift shop in the French Quarter. I will be catching a train to Gainesville, GA on May 2, 2017 in hopes of beginning a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail on May 3.

Any donations I receive will go directly towards gear or food resupply along the trail. In return, I will do my best to share with you the beauty that is thru-hiking -- by way of pictures and stories and undying gratitude. Through completion of this journey, I hope to grow as a person and inspire others to get back to nature -- or most importantly: to follow any dreams one may possess, taking care not to dismiss those that the "day-to-day" of societal routine may frame as an impossibility.
