Pay Smith's Rent

Donation protected
Hey! I'm Smith and due to an unfortunate series of events involving a poorly timed depressive episode I need money to pay my rent!

Who are you?
I'm Smith, sometimes better known as Townhouse. I'm an illustrator (see my art blog ), an off-season student, and hopefully very soon a retail worker. I like drawing, gardening, and baking. I'm also trans and mentally ill, although transitioning isn't really my highest priority right now and the meds I've recently started seem to curb the most immediately pressing brain problems.

What's the problem?
It's a long story of things piling onto one another, but in short: I was incapacitated by my illness for a few months and lost my main income source before I was able to get help. Now that I'm on an effective medication for the first time in my life (woo!) I'm a lot more capable of functioning than I have been in the past! . . . but I have to use that newfound ability to pull myself out of the hole I'm dug into before I can use it to do cool, interesting things like not being in debt. The hole I'm dug into is largely defined by "really unstable housing situation." I need to stop worrying about whether or not I'll have a roof over my head for, like, at least a month.

Why don't you just get a job?
I'm trying! It's actually going pretty well (or at least better than it's gone during any other attempt), but of the various interviews I've had so far none of them are planning on filling the position before October. September's rent is due in . . . not October.

Where's the money going?
It's going to my subletter. Any excess will go toward living expenses, debt, and medication.

What are you doing to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again?
Aside from aforementioned job-getting? I'm working on improving my social media presence and activity as an illustrator, communicating better in both professional and social settings, strengthening my support network, and finding long-term help for my recurring brain issues. Once I have a more steady source of income I'll be able to add rebuilding my emergency fund to my list of priorities (the current list includes paying off debts and eating) so that I'll have something to live off of when unforseen expenses or unforseen stressors crop up. I also plan to continue supplementing my income with smalltime commissions and freelance work until I can (hopefully eventually) live off that!

I don't like your rewards.
I also have flat-rate inkwash pieces open starting at $7, and if you're interested in something not currently listed (big illustration? something with shading? comic panels?)  you can email me at [email redacted] to discuss a commission!

I want to donate, but I don't want to donate here.
Consider buying me a drink if you want to make a one-time donation or supporting me on patreon if you want to make it a regular thing!

I'm gonna donate! How do I get my reward?
Add a comment to your donation telling me who or what you want me to draw! Leave me a means of contacting you, as well. Make it private if you don't want other people seeing it. If you donate anonymously or leave no comment I will assume you don't want a reward.

How long will my reward take?
Depends on what you've ordered and how much I have to do! You can PM me for progress or follow my Tumblr for occasional general updates. It may be a while, especially if you've ordered a lot of things or a higher tier. If you're looking for speed, order inkwash instead!

Thank you for reading! If you'd like to help out but can't donate, consider sharing this page with your peers!
