Touching the Singularity

Touching the Singularity is a music compilation project. To listen to this project is to critically engage with the socio-politics of human-digital co-evolution. To fund this project is to value artists highlighting these issues, and to fund the training of queer/poc/women in the tech industry.
In popular culture, we often encounter fearful narratives of human technological convergence: Black Mirror, Blade Runner, I, Robot. Many of these point at oppressive regimes which we might relate to our own current political realities. But how often do we find projects which actively invest in efforts to empower marginalized peoples especially vulnerable in these dystopic visions? We can help prevent future inequality by increasing access to technology today.
Half of the donations for this project go to Trans Tech Social. According to their donations page, this $250 will be "used to create an affirming education and employment space for transgender and gender nonconforming people, as well as anyone facing discrimination in the workplace or education." Half of the donations will go directly to contributing artists. With five songs by five artists, this $250 will pay each artist $50 for their song.
As of late December, most of the music has been collected, and the full set of artists has been confirmed. We are working to raise the last bit of money to reach our revised goal of $250, and hope to release the compilation at the end of January.
Even if we don't believe that we will reach the Singularity, we cannot deny how digital and human life influence one another. If we care about how people here and now live on this Earth, then we will be wise to think about how a more technologically integrated society might be shaped.
