Tony Tseng Memorial Fund

$14,395 of $10,000 goal

Raised by 157 people in 46 months
Last evening we lost a dear friend in our gaming community. Tony Tseng was a mentor, a co-worker, a teacher, a loving father, a husband, and to many of us a friend as well as a colleague. He left us far too soon, and we grieve not just for his loss but also for what his family lost.

The Georgia Game Developers Association and the IGDA-Atlanta chapter are raising funds to help Tony's wife and son through this trying time. All funds raised will go to them (other than what we pay GoFundMe).

If you have any thoughts, wisdom, or memories of Tony you would like to share, please use ‪#‎GGJ15‬ and ‪#‎tonytseng‬ and help us to spread Tony's spirit with the rest of the world.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed! $12,000 in three days is incredible. We are going to try to reach $20,000 to help Tony's wife and four-year-old son through this time. Thanks to all of you who have submitted videos. We hope to give a DVD with all of them to the family tomorrow. If you are going to contribute one, please send us the Youtube link by 5 pm EST today.

To answer the main questions we have received:

1. While the GGDA is a nonprofit association, we are not a charity. In other words, contributions are not tax deductible.

2. All funds we receive will be turned over to the family. Gofundme takes five percent and WePay takes 2.9 percent and $.30/contribution. Unless the family makes other arrangements, there will probably be taxes on the funds as well.

3. ALL contributions are welcome. If you cannot support it financially, please help us by spreading the word.

Thanks for your support!

Friday the Georgia game development community lost a much-beloved teacher and mentor with the passing of Tony Tseng. As Program Coordinator for the Game Development Program at SCAD-Atlanta, Tony helped launch the careers of many who now call our industry their home.

This tragedy occurred just as Tony was about to kick off Atlanta's Global Game Jam site, one of the world's largest with almost 300 participants. The jam goes on, though without the leadership of its most stalwart champion.

We invite you to join us at 5 pm today in room 202 of Building Q on the campus of Southern Polytechnic State University. We will hold the judging for the jam but also memorialize Tony and his work on behalf of our community. If you would like to say a few words there, please let us know. Note that this is not the family memorial or funeral service. This is our industry's opportunity to honor one of our own.
