Tommy Odetto's 606 Recording Dream
HOW IT BEGAN.
October 2015, Tommy Odetto, from Fairfax, CA published a video to YouTube. A seven minute mini-documentary about a young singer/songwriter/guitar player from the Bay Area who simply wanted to “Jam with Dave Grohl. ” Oh sure, just Dave Grohl – Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures. Well, sure, what aspiring rock guitar player doesn’t? Tommy was different though. This guy isn’t just a good guitar player. He is talented. He is gifted. And he did everything in his personal power to make sure that anyone and EVERYone that might have means to making it happen would see the video.
KINDNESS OF STRANGERS.
A few months later, in January 2016, Tommy had managed to get his video to a Foo Fighters fan who lived in Milwaukee. That would be me, Sandy Ploy. (Shown below: Me and Tommy in Chicago last November.)
I will be honest, at first, I ignored it. Thought he was just some random Facebook guy. But, he kept asking for me to watch it. I finally did. I was literally blown away. I immediately thought of my friend David “Veggie” Vieria who owned Moorpark’s Rock & Roll Pizza and was responsible for booking the bands for Conejo Valley Days in Thousand Oaks. (Tommy and Veggie this past Thanksgiving, shown below.)
We quickly agreed that it would be a good idea to book Tommy and his band as one of the opening acts for Chevy Metal. Chevy Metal was just the festival headliner, that just so happened to be the band of the Foo Fighter’s drummer Taylor Hawkins; they also had an unannounced special guest planned, Dave Grohl.
Around the same time, a staffer for the Foo Fighters also shared the video with Dave Grohl. They also agreed that this guy was a real talent.
DREAM COME TRUE.
Fast forward to May of last year. Conejo Valley Days. Tommy is there. Dave is there. They MEET! And then...about half way through the Chevy Metal set, Tommy is invited on stage...by none other than Dave Grohl. And he KILLED it. His talent buzzing through Rolling Stone’s Miss You. Friends and Family in the crowd, Dave Grohl looking him eye to eye, as they play note for note with one another. A DREAM COME TRUE. Literally, someones dream was granted right before our eyes. (No caption needed.)
In the past year, Tommy and I began working together. I do Promotions, PR, Website and even a some Manager-esque things. We have become the absolute best of friends and if I could write a check for this whole thing myself, I would do it in a heartbeat. I love him. I love his mom Cindy, Aunt Lisa and his brother, Nicky, too. And I am sure as I meet the rest of his family, that list will grow! (Shown below: Cindy, Tommy's Aunt Lisa and me on New Year's Eve at his hometown venue, Peri's Bar.)
LEAP OF FAITH
That is what lead us here today. The exposure from that show and a whole lot of gigs since then with a ton of networking and hard work has garnered Tommy ANOTHER DREAM. The opportunity to record with legendary record producer, Barrett Jones, who has worked with Grohl in Nirvana and Foo Fighters many times. As if that weren't exciting enough. We have also managed to secure studio time at Studio 606, the one with the epic Neve Board from Sound City...yes, THAT Studio 606 and that Sound City!
WE NEED YOU.
That is where WE step in.
Tommy’s friends. Tommy’s family. His neighbors, fans and the passionate family of Foo Fighters Fans who have now adopted Tommy into their fold. He did what so many of us will ever only dream of. SHARE A STAGE WITH DAVE.
And now he gets to work with the people that launched Dave's career. This is a magical moment.
BUSINESS AT HAND.
We have 90 days to raise a minimum of $16,606 dollars to make THIS DREAM come true. This will pay for the studio, producer, musicians, transportation, the production, travel, accommodations, food, you get the idea. This business ain’t cheap. But, I believe in us and Tommy.
We can do this.
PLEASE & THANK YOU.
Please give what you can. It is a lot easier than it seems. Skip a few trips to Starbucks --- even I have cut WAY back. Make dinner in once a month. Recycle those old cans in the garage. Drag all that loose change to the bank and cash it in. This money is under our noses. We just have to find it.
We all know there are few things in this world that are better than Tommy's electric smile and one of his smokin' guitar solos.
In the coming days we will announce a few incentives to nudge the path along. If you give ahead of that announcement, your dollars will still count toward those items.
My heart is shaking as we get this ready to launch. Thank you SO MUCH for helping his dream...which has now become my dream as well.
Hugs and Kisses and Rock & Roll -
Sandy Ploy and
David "Veggie" Vieria

Holy cow. WHAT A MILESTONE! We can not thank each and every one of you enough. Friends, Family, Auction Bidders and Birthday Givers. Thank You. We know we have been persistent. And we promise that as we are shifting into this final push, our focus will be for more auction and gig dollars and wide-reaching marketing. Thank you for your INCREDIBLE generosity and patience as this marathon has progressed. Slow and steady WILL WIN the race.
Tommy took the better part of the last few months off to write and rehearse. But...that quiet time is wrapping up. We mentioned his March gigs in our previous update. He had more positive press, thanks to BluesRockReview.com (link at end). PLUS...we are excited to announce that he has a lot more gigs coming down the pike.
- Catch him at San Francisco's Boom Boom Room with Mars Volta Drummer Thomas Pridgen on April 20th.
- He is joined, once again, by his friends from House of Mary as they ring in Cinco de Mayo at Peri's Bar in Fairfax.
- He returns to the Conejo Valley Days Rock Stage on May 13th in Thousand Oaks.
- And he kicks off Bottle Rock weekend at 19 Broadway in Fairfax on May 26th!
You can stay up-to-date on more gigs as they are announced on Facebook or at Tommy's updated website: http://www.tommyodetto.com/gigs-1/
Last, but not least. Here's a little snippet of Tommy last weekend, a quick getaway that included a stop at Norman's Rare Guitars in Topanga. No big deal, just playing a guitar that cost more than BOTH of our cars. No kidding. Tommy sure does make it hum, though. I could listen all day.
We are so grateful to each of you.

About 10 days ago we got some news that knocked us off balance for a minute. As with any working business, things come up that have more priority than others. WE, the Tommy606 Campaign, got bumped off the 606 schedule for a booking that needed more time in April. Obviously, we were not the highest of priorities. That makes sense.
Unfortunately, that meant that our Spring recording date was no longer available. We were frantic for a moment. But then reality set in. I had always said that if we got to late March and were not close to goal that it would be time to worry. Well, it's the end of March, and we still have a way to go. We quickly realized that this delay was the gift that we needed. So, we made some calls, changed some flights and moved some of our schedules around. And now, we have a new and improved plan for recording at 606 this summer. It is inked on their calendar and ours. Everyone (Us and 606) involved seems happy with the new plan.
What does this mean for the crowdfund? It means we are FULL STEAM AHEAD. We now have a few more months to earn the rest of the money. We have time to plan another auction in April and even May if supply allows. We also have time to flush out a couple of other fundraising ideas that have been bouncing around. And, it may not seem important, but for a split second ... we can exhale. I don't know about Tommy, but I don't feel like I have done that much since this thing launched.
We don't want to let the most amazing part of this journey get swept up in all of this change. And that is ALL OF YOU. The people who have already donated to this great adventure. Everyone who have shared it on their social media. And those in our families who have supported us as we have climbed this mountain. And we don't want to leave out Barrett, Veggie or the gang at Tour Bus Live. All of you...THANK. YOU.
You are the first to hear the news. We have more time! Yay! And we intend to make the best of it.
Thank you for believing.

This amazing photo was shot by photographer Brent Angelo in Portland last week. He also wrote a great review of the show which can be seen here: http://www.oregonmusicnews.com/walter-trout-aladdin-theater Thanks Again, Brent. Happy to have you along for the ride!
In the past 4 days; Tommy has opened for both Walter Trout AND Tommy Castro. He performed a tribute song to Chuck Berry and the encore with Mr. Castro as well. He, his brother Nick (drummer) and his buddy Milo (bass+guitar) have spent more than 24 hours on the road, traveled more than 2000 miles, played kick ass rock and roll for about 1600 people and had the most traffic on his website that he has ever had. Plus, if that weren't enough he just spent the last 90 minutes on the phone with me telling me all about it. He had a GREAT week. These are the weeks that make Tommy tick. To play, LIVE and LOUD for people who love rock and roll. Congratulations Tommy. You earned these amazing moments. I've included a couple photos and a link for you all to check out.
As expected, we have hit a little plateau in our fundraising. But that is ok. Everything worth doing has its fast moments and slower moments. And we are not giving up. One excellent way to boost the action is the auction that just launched on eBay. (Go to eBay and search for #tommy606). It will be live for 1 week and there is some seriously desirable and hard to get goodies to be had. If you like Broadway, Baseball or Foos (duh), we have something you might want.
If you haven't had a chance to check out the detailed interview with Tommy that UK blogger Rach Gee published; I highly recommend it. Really great stuff about what makes our friend tick. http://veetu-industries.blogspot.com.
As always, thank you for your support and belief in the power of music and making dreams come true. If you could hear his voice this afternoon, you would totally feel the undeniable energy that drives Tommy. Energy that ONLY music can give him.
Have a great week! Happy bidding!
Please share and repost often.

As always, and most important...THANK YOU to this week's donors. This dream gets closer and closer to reality every day...because of all of our friends and family.
We have our next fundraising auction coming up next week. It will probably launch next Sunday evening, and last for 7 days. We have more great stuff including some extremely hard to get Foo Fighters collectible goodies. An autographed baseball. A 2 night stay in Palm Beach, Florida and more. Stay tuned!
Tommy is on the road this week. Opening for blues legend Walter Trout on Thursday the 16th in Portland, Oregon. Saturday the 18th, he is opening for Tommy Castro in Vallejo, CA. Busy, busy week.
Our friend and awesome photographer, Rich Chapman, sent us the photos from the Milwaukee gig earlier this week. There are SO MANY great shots, it was hard to share them all. But you can see a lot of performance shots on the SMELLS LIKE DAVE GROHL Facebook page (give them a LIKE while you are there). You can also see a lot of the people shots and candids on my Facebook page. I have also included a couple here as an added bonus.
This adventure is definitely a marathon and not a sprint. I think we are all catching our breath after a seriously fast start. But we are right on track to making our goal. But we need the help of our friends and family to really spread the word. Share this story with your coworkers, bar buddies, sports teams, book clubs...EVERYONE. Every single dollar really does make a difference as we work our way to the top of this hill.
Enjoy the weekend!
