 MIAMI BEACH, FL
On Thursday, May 4th, at 1:00am, famed jazz drummer Tommy Campbell was viscously attacked near his apartment in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Two assailants attacked him in the street and left him with the tendons to both of his knees torn, a broken foot, and a severely sprained wrist. He was rushed to Bellevue hospital. Surgeons reattached the tendons to his knees and treated his other injuries. He was released today, May 13th, and is back at his apartment recovering from this heinous crime.

We are reaching out to the music community and beyond asking for donations to help Tommy through this very difficult time. He has no health insurance and his limited funds have been decimated. Please help us to get Tommy back on his feet and playing drums again. His recovery will be very long and difficult, so lets come together and support this great musician in his darkest hour.

Dear Friends

Thank you all for your love and your donations on John and Frank’s GoFundMe page, and FaceBook. I haven't even read anything on either page (yet!). I have to stay off social media, in order to focus on healing. I have a loooong way to go!.

I'm home now after 8 days (of pain!!) in Bellevue Hospital. I'm feeling a little better but I’m still in bad shape. I won't be able to bend my knees for about 3 weeks to one month. So, for now, I must rest as much as possible, eat well, take small amounts of medicine, and then the same cycle over & over, for weeks! And again I must stay away from any & all social media (as much as possible), because it's very VERY important to rest. I’ve received so many calls sending love and encouragement that warm my heart and put a smile on my face. I’m sorry that I can’t respond much at the moment but that time will come.

So obviously YOU are all very special to me, and I love you madly. There are no words to express my gratitude for all your help and support. I am truly blessed and overwhelmed with the amount of love coming my way. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You All & All, with your generous help, I think I'm getting better…slowly!

I spoke with Tommy last night and his spirits were high though his injuries are of great burden. He wanted me to pass on how overwhelmed he is with the love and support of his friends all over the world THANK YOU. I am sure in the days weeks to come Tommy will be able to post here his own words and share progress on what looks like a very long road.

I wonder if he can get emergency Medicaid. Also. Jazz Fondation? The social worker at hospital might be a start for the Medicaid. We have expanded Medicaid in NYC.
