Tom Malone is a hardworking man whose favorite things in life are his wife Kim, daughter Hannah, dog Jack, family and the Louisville Cardinals.

Last week Tom was the victim of a horrific hit and run accident.  The vehicle that hit him drug him underneath for over a block. The injuries that he sustained were life threatening and life altering. He is currently in ICU on ventilator and heavily sedated because the pain would be more than he could bare.
His knee was so badly dislocated it tore all the main ligaments, nerve damage, broken bones and severed an artery.  They had to take an artery from his other leg to save his life and his leg.  He received no blood flow to the lower portion of that leg for 3 hours which has caused other complications. Getting mobility back in that leg will be a long process and we pray that he does.

His back was so damaged by road burn from him being drug under vehicle that is was solid black.  They had to remove skin from a large portion of his back all the way to the muscle.  The team of doctors working on him said they have never seen road burn damage this bad. They have temporarily put cadaver skin on his back to help start the healing until they can start skin grafting his own skin.

His other injuries include gash in back of head, skull fracture, hip fracture, 8 severely broken ribs, and collapsed lung.  He has been fighting fevers off and on, has been through 3 surgeries with a 4th scheduled for Wednesday. With many more to come.

He has a very long painful road ahead of him. When he is released from hospital at some point he will head straight to a rehab center.  Even with insurance his medical bills will be astronomical.

On top of this he will not be able to work for a very long time which is also financially devastating.  We wanted to set up this fund hoping we can raise money to help Tom and his family. Even if you can’t help please share with others.

No one is prepared to be an innocent victim of a violent crime. Please pray for Tom and his family. Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Day 79

Since the last update Tom had surgery to remove his leg below the knee on November 1st. Unfortunately the infection was too high in the leg and on Monday November 6th he went back to surgery to amputate again above the knee. This was due to complications from the severed artery in his leg that caused no blood flow for over 3 hours. That was his 12th surgery since the hit and run and hopefully his last.

His hip fracture, skull fracture, 8 broken ribs, and skin grafts on his back are healing nicely. Hopefully his trachea is removed soon. He can't wait for that to be gone.

On Friday he was moved back to Frazier. He suffered muscle atrophy from being bed ridden for so long. Movement has returned but he is not as strong as before. Now they will work on getting him stronger, learning how to operate on one leg and hopefully home soon.
Although he still has a long road ahead of him, his spirit is amazing.

Thank you for all your continued prayers and support.

It's been awhile since I have updated Tom's Go Fund Me supporters.

Tom is a fighter. He has battled so much in the past 67 days. Unfortunately the battle with his leg ends tomorrow. He will have surgery to amputate his left leg below the knee. Then the new fight begins. They are trying to save the knee. So we will be praying that all goes well over the next 7-10 days and they do not have to do another surgery to go above the knee.

All his other injuries are healing well. He is making great strides everyday. The family could not be more thankful for the doctor who tried to save his leg. He really did give it his all. The new infection in his leg just became to great of a risk to his life.

We are also very Thankful for Fraser rehab center. The kindest most caring staff we have experienced thus far. Tom's spirits were lifted going there. He will leave in the morning to another hospital for the next week or two. After his surgery's are complete he will return to Fraser.

Tom is nervous, the family is nervous. But he is trying to be so strong. Please continue to pray for Tom. None of us can even imagine what he is going through or still has to come. Also pray for Kim, Hannah and family.
He will beat this. He will learn to live a new and very different life. Tom said "I am going to do get through this and continue to be an American Bad Ass!"

Day 33 for Tom in ICU.

He has been moved to a different ICU unit. They decided to move him to the ICU Burn unit on Monday to better deal with his skin grafts and the complications in his leg. He is off the ventilator and breathing on his own. He is dealing with a lot of congestion in his lungs. He still has a trachea which means he still can't eat or drink yet. But hopefully he is getting closer to that. Once he is able to get the speak valve in his Trachea they will do swallow tests to make sure nothing is going into his lungs. He so bad wants to eat and drink again.

Although they have not given him the speak valve for his trachea we can better understand what he is saying. It's not his voice but sound is coming through. No more reading lips which was very frustrating for him not to be understood.

He also continues to have muscle atrophy in his arms and his good leg. They have started physical therapy to get these working again. He has gone from not being able to move his arms at all to being able to lift them. Just need to get those hands and fingers working all the way again.

Today he goes into the OR for his 8th surgery. Still dealing with all the complications in his leg from no blood flow. His skin grafts are still doing well but painful for him. Although he still has a long road ahead of him he has come a long way since the accident. Baby steps day by day. Please Continue to pray for Tom, Kim, Hannah and family.

Again, Thank you all for your prayers and support!
