Tom Clare is a loyal, and loving husband, to his wife and best friend Cheryl, of 11 years.  Family means the world to Tom, whether family be by marriage, blood, friends, or the love and passion of his Manchester United family and friends.  Sadly, the summer of 2017 has brought on an unexpected life changing event that will significantly affect Tom and his family.   He has recently been diagnosed with Cancer (Adenocarcinoma) which has affected multiple parts of his body, and he is going to  need an extensive array of medical care for a very long time.

Tom’s life journey began in Manchester, England, in April 1945.  His adult schooling took place at St Gregory’s RC Technical High School in his native city.  As a young boy, he inherited a sporting passion for Manchester United Football Club, which is still so evident today.  After spending three years in professional soccer, he enlisted into the British Army in 1963, serving in the Corps of Royal Engineers from 1963-65, then the Royal Corps of Transport from 1965 -86, and finally, he finished this chapter of his life as a Warrant Officer.

In 1999, he made the decision to emigrate to the USA and settled in Houston, Texas, since when, he has lived a quiet, but happy and fulfilling life.  Since his retirement from working life he has become an established author, specializing in his beloved Manchester United, which includes titles,  Forever A Babe;    The Men Who Were The Busby Babes;  The United Tour of Manchester; and Manchester United Ramblings of a nostalgic Old Red.  Tom has been a guest speaker on many radio and television shows. He would never brag or boast of any of his famed accomplishments as fame is not the reason behind this man. He is a simple man who prefers to live a simple yet happy lifestyle. Story telling will keep everyone laughing as Tom shares his knowledge, world experiences, and his deep rooted passion for his love of “Football” as he calls it or “Soccer” in my world.

Many of you will know that Tom has  always held a lifelong desire to help others, raising funds for various charities, schools, and organizations, in places as far away as Manchester UK, Germany, Atlanta, Dallas, and then in his home city in Houston

Thomas Anthony Clare is also my Stepfather, Father in law to my husband Jeff and Grandfather to my 3 daughters (Katelyn, Kelly & Kimmy). He is a man who never wants to burden anyone and therefore would never ask for help from another person, not even in a time of his own need. Therefore, I am creating this fund on his behalf. With Tom’s recent, and shocking diagnosis of Cancer, he and his wife will face an enormous amount of medical expenses in the near future, even though he has medical insurance. My goal is to provide him with the security of knowing that his family, friends, and supporters are here for him throughout this journey.

Please consider donating into this fund to help make Tom’s Journey a little less stressful. I will post ongoing updates and news of any kind here. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this and thank you for offering your ongoing support, donations, prayers or simply words of encouragement to Tom as he begins his Journey for a Cure.

Good morning to you all,

Today is an emotional day for both Tom & Cheryl. Today is the last day they will spend in the only home they have shared since they were married. The reasons for this move are ones that each and everyone of us knows and feels at this point. As Cancer is an ugly disease , a life changing one! I can personally only imagine the flood of emotions and memories that Tom and Cheryl will experience today, a bitter sweet feeling for sure. Today will mark a final good bye to a home that has been their shelter and comfort place . A place that they have enjoyed many summers playing whit their grand kids in the pool.

Today, closes a final chapter in Houston as they will move out of their home tomorrow.
Friday is closing day on their Houston home and they will officially turn over the keys and wish the new owner as many long years of blessings from this home that Tom and Cheryl have experienced. Friday afternoon Tom and Cheryl will make the drive to Lafayette Louisiana to begin an entire new life chapter.

Move in day into their new home is scheduled for Monday. We hope and pray for an easy move and look forward to being able to help in making this as easy a transition as possible to get Tom and Cheryl settled so that they can begin writing this next chapter in life.

Appointments will continue without delay, as Tom meets his new Oncologist in Lafayette next Wednesday March 21st to make plans in continuing his fight for life. The fight will go on only now he will be surrounded by family to help him in this battle.

Thank you to each and everyone of you both near and far. You have continued to follow Tom and Cheryl in this journey, Your support is overwhelming. Tom and Cheryl's new home does have a guest room and their door is always open to you all.

God has blessed our family with an amazing gift of time and we are forever thankful regardless of how ever long that may be. Please keep both Tom and Cheryl in your thoughts and prayers over the next few days. Please continue to support Tom Clare's Journey for a Cure. God Bless you all!!

Tuesday February 27 2018 update:

I am sure by now many of you have heard that Tom & Cheryl are moving from their home in Houston to be closer to family in Lafayette. This past weekend they managed to find what will soon be their forever home. The next 2 weeks will be hectic and stressful but the end result will be worth it!

Sometimes it becomes necessary to simplify the things we have in order to cherish the things that matter most.

Tom's medical update is that he is having surgery Friday 3/2/18 to repair a hernia and hopefully rid him of the severe pain he has been in. Tom goes for his next Immune Therapy Treatment Monday 3/6/18. Then on 323/18 he will have a PET scan . This will show whether or not this new form of treatment has been working to keep his cancer under control.

Aside from the natural stress that goes along with a major life changing move; Tom's health has been stable for the time being. Highlight of his recent trip ( other than the fact of finding their forever home..) I actually got to see Tom's new hair growth .... wow he actually has hair again! Although I do still prefer the flat cap!!!

Please continue to help me in supporting Tom and his ongoing fight for a cure!! Please Please please consider standing by me and supporting Tom in prayer, messages , pictures ,and yes money . Tom loves hearing from each of you. Your simple message can bring him a simple smile of fond memories or hours of conversation especially if a bottle of wine is involved!!

To win this fight Tom can't stand alone but with an army behind him.

Friday February 23, 2018......Good Morning to everyone! Today marks a new beginning ( new beginnings have a special meaning to me as it means we all woke up and have a reason to be thankful).

Tom and Cheryl had an amazing and memorable trip of a lifetime in Munich Germany recently. Thank you to each and everyone of you who were there and made their trip extra special. Fast forwarding forward , life has been crazy since they have returned to the states. They accepted an offer on their Houston home and now must be moved out by March 14th. Then Cheryl managed to pick up the flu on their return trip home which placed her in the hospital for 4 days. Tom had his Cardio-version 2 days ago. This was a success and his heart is not beating back in a Normal Sinus Rhythm. Wednesday afternoon Tom had an MRI however due to the amount of pain he was in they were not able to complete the procedure and are rescheduling it. Tom is currently meeting with the anesthesiologist for his surgery next Friday March 2nd to repair his hernia. Somewhere in the next 2 week he also has his Immune Therapy for his Cancer .Truthfully, keeping up with Tom and Cheryl's appointment has become a task similar to keeping track of where my 3 girls are.

Today is also the beginning of a new life chapter for both Tom & Cheryl as they are coming to Lafayette to find their future forever home. Please wish them both the best in both finding a home that they both love as well as any easy transition to a new city., new home and new medical doctors for them both. This decision has been a difficult one for them both , yet a necessary one . We are thrilled to know that in 3 weeks they will be living here close to family.

Tom's fight for a cure will continue with great passion but will now happen in Louisiana come March. This also means he will have a new reason to travel more to go back to Houston to see his friends.

Please continue to check here for updates as I will keep them coming. Please continue to support Tom in his Journey for a Cure! The fight for life must go on!
