Together for Mutaman

Donation protected
This is Selma and Hanadi and we are asking you to help our friend and brother Mutaman, who is 25 years old and suffered chemical acid injury to his face and chest in February 2017 following kidnap and attempted robbery. Mutaman suffered these horrific injuries as he struggled to free himself from his kidnappers. The injury was classified as grade VI chemical acid injury to the face, chest and both eyes, this has resulted in loss of eyelid tissue and in damage to both eyes and caused partial blindness. Mutaman underwent skin grafting in Libya in April 2017- two months after the incident and has consulted eye surgeons who chose to postpone surgery and any further intervention until his facial skin and part of his eye tissue were more settled and healed. They also recommended Limbal Stem Cell Transplant in a specialised centre abroad.

I, Selma Elnahas and my friend Hanadi are friends of Mutaman’s mother. We are British Citizens, who live and work in the UK, but originally from the Sudan. Mutaman was a final year university student in Libya, but moved back to Sudan following this horrific incident, and sadly the family can not afford further treatment for their son. We are in regular contact with the family and we came to know that his skin condition is getting worse; blistering with inflammation and swelling around his nasal openings causing him significant narrowing and great discomfort when breathing. And also because of the scale and the degree of his injury, he continues to suffer from wide-spread contracture to his face and neck-caused by the scarred skin, this is increasingly causing him to become stiff and is restricting his muscle movement. We are fortunate enough to find the treatment that Mutaman needs in Bumrungard International Hospital in Bangkok and we are hopeful that together we will reach the amount of fund needed towards the cost of treatment -Tentative treatment/Procedure being considered: Release of scar contractures with skin graft and/or skin flap and/or Z-plasty, scars revision. Multiple operative procedures are required to improve the condition. These deformities from acid burn take time to be corrected and 2-3 months at least in Thailand is proposed. In addition, further consultation with Ophthalmologist will be required when arrival to review corneal scarring and loss of eyesight.

Many thanks and great appreciation from all of us here, and on behalf of Mutaman and his family for your support and your kind donations.
