Toby's Treatment for Cancer
*August 11, 2017 update at bottom
Toby is our beloved pet and anyone who knows him knows that he is one of the best animals in the world. He is packed full of love reflected off his original owners, Mindy, Tim, Katy, Lauren, and Emily. Toby is the perfect example of what kindness can do if you put in the world. He is courteous, well-mannered, and a joy to anyone who steps into his world. He has only made people's lives better and has asked for nothing in return, except for maybe a treat! Unfortunately, Toby has recently been diagnosed with cancer, which I will explain more further down. He has touched many lives and anyone who knows him knows how much of a joy he is.
Starting Thursday, August 3rd Toby stopped eating. He's barely had a few bites since then and it is now Sunday, August 6th. Katy and I took him to the vet across from Golden Coral in Carbondale. They ran a few tests and finally did an anal exam. That's where they found the cancer. Apparently we caught it very early but we must act fast because this cancer is a very aggressive and a fast-acting one.
The treatment is surgery and it is unavoidable at this point. This, however, if you haven't already guessed, is very expensive. That is why we are here. It's quickly becoming an emergency situation.
There are few things to keep in mind. If the surgery is successful everything could go back to normal. With all surgeries comes risk. Since it is so close to his sphincter, it is very possible that he will have damage and have no control over his bowel movements. If somehow the surgery doesn't work or the cancer has spread too much then there is little they can do. We will just make him as comfortable as possible and continue to give him the love and joy that he has given us.
If you decide to donate, every single penny will go to Toby and his treatment. None of the money will be used for anything else. If you can not donate, please help spread the word.
We don't expect much because we know how difficult these times can be but anything can help.
Also, do not feel guilted or obligated into helping us. We understand fully the struggles of every day life and finances our friends and family have to go through. We are going through it too. If we didn't, we wouldn't be here today asking for help.
If we somehow exceed the goal, everything we haved will go to keep Toby comfortable. If the unthinkable happens and we go above and beyond our goal we will donate all of the exceeding pay that doesn't go to Toby directly to the Perry County Humane Society.
I created an email specifically for Toby at [email redacted] Got any questions or concerns please email that address or contact me directly.
* August 11, 2017 update: today we went to the Veterinary Specialty Service center. Toby had a bunch more tests done and it has been brought to our attention that there is very little we can do for him.
We will be making him as happy and healthy as we can.
We updated our goal amount to 1200. This includes medicine and procedures to keep him comfortable and pain free... or as close to it as possible.
