My name's Tobias, and I'm a disabled transgender digital artist from Virginia. Most of my work is freelance, which doesn't cover much in the way of my medical needs. This is especially true in my need to transition, as insurance doesn't cover transgender procedures. I need your help to reach my goal of being able to complete my transition.
I have dealt with illness and disability for the majority of my life, and because of this, I am unable to work a stable job outside of freelance art. I deal with several lifelong conditions, including asthma , chronic fatigue and pain caused by fibromyalgia , and several complications in my legs due to a DVT (deep vein thrombosis, Thrombophlebitis) from years ago that make it difficult to walk. These physical issues combined with the mental stress and depression that comes with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) keep me from being able to integrate into the work force.
As far as my transition goes, being transgender also has an impact on my mental and physical health. Being able to transition medically will help to alleviate symptoms and help me live a much more healthy and fulfilling life. The procedure I will be undergoing is a double mastectomy , or as we in the transgender community call it, top surgery. The fee to secure a date for the procedure is $500, which has already been paid thanks to donations to this fundraiser. The fees for this procedure cost a total of $7,415, and include the following:
⦁ Double incision top surgery with liposuction - $5,590.00
⦁ Anesthesia fees - $800.00
⦁ Facility fees - $1,025.00
With both the fee for securing a surgery date and the fees for the procedure itself, this totals to $7,915.00. payment in full is mandatory by the date of the surgery on September 28, 2018.
