on behalf of Sharon Nakato
Tatsuaki was a very generous individual, always giving to others whether in the form of a pleasant conversation, education, or support. The Iowa City Hospice supported the entire Nakato family during his battle with cancer and they took very good care of us all. The Optimist International Foundation Childhood Cancer Campaign was important to him as he really wanted children battling cancer to have support wherever possible. Since both Tatsuaki and his wife Sharon battled cancer and are members of the Coralville Optimist Club, this foundation is near and dear to their hearts. Finally, Tatsuaki loved teaching students about the field of Hydraulics and to share his passion and encourage a future of this discipline, a scholarship will be created in his name.

Please specify in the comments section to which of the three charities below you would like your donation to go.

- Iowa City Hospice
- Optimist International Foundation Childhood Cancer Campaign
- Scholarship in the name of Tatsuaki Nakato for students of Hydraulic Research

Prof. Nakato was so king and generous to his students. We have learnt so many things from him during our times at IIHR.

I was very sad to hear the news of Tatsuaki’s passing. He was an excellent teacher and supervisor. He emphasized, by example, the importance of humility and integrity in one’s work which I still incorporate in my life today. I remember him being very proud of his children and telling funny stories about his dog. I am very grateful for the impact he had on my life. My family and I will keep you in our prayers.

Hello Kimi, Both my wife and I remember your father fondly, and are very sad to hear of this news. We received our PhDs at the Institute (early 1990s), were there for four years when your father worked, and had plenty of interaction with him. A kind, generous man that looked out for people (specially students) without being asked. I also remember him as being very proud of his children. Our condolences are with you and the rest of Nakato family. You can choose to donate to one or more charities you listed. It is up to you.
