Love for Linda

On 7Feb, my step mom, Linda, was riding on the back of my dad’s motorcycle; a favorite pastime for both of them. Unfortunately, some punks in our quiet neighborhood decided to maliciously tie a ratchet strap from one side of the street across to the other. Neither of my parents saw the strap as they cruised down the neighborhood street and unfortunately Linda was nearly decapitated when she collided with the strap. (My dad, thankfully, was sitting lower than Mom, and was mostly unaffected).
The extent of her injuries is heart breaking, as the strap nearly ripped her jaw off. There is extensive damage to her face, vital arteries, and soft tissue, and dozens of fractures to her face, skull and possibly cervical vertebrae that so far have required several surgeries and will require several more. She is in critical but stable condition in the ICU.
After asking for prayers, no matter what diety you report to, I’m asking for donations to help cover the cost of staggering medical expenses, travel and lodging costs for out of town family members (including travel for myself as I’m stationed away with the military), food and basic necessity costs so that my devastated father and family don’t have to worry about anything during this awful time. Every thing past the immediate cost of her medical bills will go directly towards her post-hospital care (in home care equipment, supplies for wound maintenance etc...). Not a cent will be put towards anything but Linda. Every little bit helps and I promise you that every little bit will be vastly appreciated.
Linda is a vivacious, outgoing, generous, loving, strong willed, stubborn and massive hearted woman who didn’t deserve this disgusting act of inhumanity and sure as hell doesn’t deserve the ramifications of someone else’s shitty life choices. From the absolute bottom of my heart, I’m begging anyone and everyone to please help contribute to this cause. Share this page and encourage others to help, too. Thank you so much in advance and God bless.

Good morning! I wasn’t on night shift but I do have the summary. Mom had a bit of a rough night again. She’s trying to cough up and clear out all the junk in her chest and it is wearing her out. She’s also got a little case of pneumonia but they caught it early and are all on top of it. We’re requesting that everyone give Mom some peace today, no visits please. She is pooped and needs some rest.
I saw Mom yesterday afternoon and she looked great otherwise. Her eyes are open and clear, the swelling is almost gone and she can see just fine. She’s doing well with the ventilator and the staff absolutely love her.
Please keep praying for her recovery and for these set backs. We love all of you so much and cannot express the generosity and forward momentum we’ve received from everyone. Thank you so much!! Please keep sharing our story and God Bless.

Morning from the night shift! Update on Mom.
She had a rough night and is back on the ventilator. Her EKG and ultrasound cleared any issues with her heart. Her chest X-ray was mostly unchanged from yesterday; still showed some fluid on her lungs but her blood work showed lack of adequate oxygen and that was the main factor in putting her back on the ventilator. Good news is that there isn’t any additional fluid and that the Dr thinks she was just tired from being off the ventilator and having so much going on. Hopefully after another chest X-ray and blood work, she’ll be able to ween off the ventilator today or tomorrow.
The staff in the ICU cannot be praised enough for how on top of every issue they are, and how caring, attentive, and compassionate they are. Their patience has no limits. Mom is in the best hands in the city. We cannot express our unfathomable gratitude to them.
Please keep Mom in your thoughts and prayers and please keep sharing our story. Keep spreading awareness and vigilance throughout our communities. Thank you so much for everything and god bless.

We have reached our $10,000 initial goal!!! I CANNOT THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH. You have no idea how incredibly blessed and humbled we are. $10,000 in a handful of days is an amazing feat and shows what the true meaning of community is. Linda is not out of the woods but with your strength and support, she is getting stronger everyday. She knows that so many people have come together to rally for her and bring awareness to our communities and that is a huge motivation for her. The staff at UMC ICU are some of the most patient, generous, intelligent, dedicated and gracious people we have ever met and they should be canonized. Thank you so, so much. Everyone. Please accept my heart; It is so full of love and hope. Please keep sharing our story and brining vigilance to other neighborhoods and communities. Thank you so much. God Bless.

Good morning from the night shift. Just a few updates as not much has changed from yesterday.
Mom came off the ventilator yesterday afternoon and is breathing pretty well on her own. She still has the tracheostomy and is on supplemental oxygen. The slits in her eyes to relieve pressure were stitched up and ophthalmology has cleared pretty much everything.
Small set back, however. The right side chest tube will not be coming out today as hoped. She has also developed a plural effusion on the left lung. She was given diuretics to help clear the fluid but will need a chest tube inserted in that side if the fluid won’t drain away. But all things considered this is a small set back that was caught very early and will be taken care of quickly.
I cannot thank everyone enough for everything you’ve done to support and encourage my family through this ordeal and I am humbled by the generosity shown to us. Please keep sharing Linda’s story and please keep praying!! God bless.
