Trenton NJ indoor soccer facility

So, what does the US National soccer team and the best soccer clubs in the state of New Jersey all have in common? They all have the best players from the best schools and that are from the best neighborhoods. Neighborhoods where people have the income to afford to pay for the best trainers and best facilities. This is a problem for the inner city of Trenton New Jersey. The residents here do not have the resources to pay for high-end trainers and coaches (please read this article from the Guardian that correlates with this point theguardian.com )   We don't have indoor or outdoor facilities where competitive soccer is played. Trenton’s City Hall administration admits that they do not have the resources to accommodate the growing population's demographics sport of choice but will support any efforts an organization is willing to propose.

The Puerto Rican Civic Association which is a non-profit located in the city of Trenton has teamed up with community activists who have recognized the need for creating a space where competitive soccer is played in the Capitol City. As the shift in immigrant families migrate from South America and Latino countries across the world to Trenton New Jersey, the sport of soccer and places to play it becomes a necessity. Most of the historic baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts have been overrun by pick up soccer games and futsal. As the cities recreation department continue to struggle to disperse what little funds they have for the local basketball, flag football and tennis programs, soccer is left up to the YMCA and Boys Club which are both outfitted with hard surfaces, or the Living Hope Church soccer program that runs for a month during the summer each year.Chazz Jones at age 9 at the Living Hope Church soccer program.

There is however, a travel soccer team out of Trenton with a mission to provide the inner city children with an opportunity to play competitively throughout New Jersey called the Glenn Myernick Foundation or “Mooch Soccer” (moochsoccer.org ). My wife and I coached the “Mooch” travel soccer team for 3 years while our son Chazz Jones played as a striker. This is a wonderful program and has yielded several successful soccer players from Trenton, however much more is needed. Since we have no designated soccer fields in Trenton, our home club is located in Robbinsville NJ. (rsasoccer.com ) and our home courts are at the Community Park in Robbinsville Township. Again, since we have no designated fields for practices, we travel to the Bob Smith indoor facility in Robbinsville NJ. (bobsmithsoccer.net) for that as well. Chazz Jones at age 12 as a "Striker" for the Mooch travel soccer team.

Chazz has grown to become a premiere player on the “Mooch” travel soccer team and was eager to accomplish more, so we paid for his training sessions with the RedBulls RDS program (redbullsacademy.com ) and the Olympic Development Program “ODP” (njyouthsoccer.com ) which were not cheap. Chazz is now a starting freshman player at Trenton Catholic Academy “TCA” located in Hamilton township. Chazz Jones at age 13 at the RedBulls training day in Robbinsville Township.

As a soccer coach in the city of Trenton and a parent of a premiere player, I know that there are talented players here that do not have the same opportunities financially that Chazz does. As a community activist, business owner and resident in the city of Trenton, I know that the cities administration does not have the resources to accommodate the rising Latino and South American demographics sport of choice, let alone the human services. Knowing this information has led me to reach out to some of the organizations that deal with immigration and the local civic leaders in the Latino community, as well as city officials to create a designated space for soccer in the city called the TMA center.

The Trenton Makes Athletic Center (TMA Center) will be a non-profit organization that will provide quality soccer training for inner-city children aged 6-17 at no cost in an indoor environment and accommodate year-round competitive tournament play at a cost, against teams all across the state of NJ and abroad. We will also feature health and fitness sports for toddlers, adults and senior citizens all through paid memberships. During the off season, the indoor facility will be available for rent and to the hosting of events. We are in the process of acquiring 3.2 acres of land from the city of Trenton at 53-61 Oxford St. that must be demolished and leveled for building. Your donations will allow us to secure the land from the city and start demolition. Meanwhile, we'll be seeking corporate donations and sponsorship to assist in the building of the facility.

As soccer becomes the sport of choice in Trenton, the demand for a safe and secure location to play competitively is immense. Please help us give the children of Trenton the opportunity to obtain complete soccer skills that will translate into life skills and ultimately into success.
