Build Homes for Tijuana Families

The Tijuana Mission Outreach Foundation is seeking donations to fully fund the building of five houses for impoverished families in the La Morita community and surrounding areas within Tijuana, Mexico.
The Foundation began its Summer Building Project in 1998. Since its inception, we have been able to build a total of 85 houses, 28 classrooms, 8 churches, and 1 community center; all benefiting families and children in La Morita.
The houses are built to replace the existing “homes,” which are leaky shacks made from discarded garage doors and cardboard. The new houses, over 700 sq. ft., are framed to current building codes, and consist of three to four bedrooms and a bathroom. In addition, these houses are insulated and wired for electricity.
Unfortunately, this year, we have only reached 60% of our fundraising goal. We are seeking $40,000 in donations by April 1 to reach our goal in order to fund the building of five homes. The April 1 deadline will allow us to plan and purchase the materials needed for the week of building scheduled for early June. Your donation will be used for the purchase of building supplies. The total cost for each house is approximately $18,000 in materials only. Volunteers donate their labor and time to build the houses.
As project manager, I will make several trips to La Morita these next few months before the scheduled build. I work with the Foundation, meet the families, and prepare the building sites. During the build week in June, a group of volunteers travel from across the U.S. to La Morita to build the houses.
