Tipis for Standing Rock
As winter nears, the Protectors' need for warm shelter grows every day. Our Mission is to raise 10,000 dollars to get 400 tipi poles delivered to Standing Rock. Standing rock consists of three camps, Rosebud, Sacred Stone, and Oceti Sakowin, all united in their effort to stop the pipeline. Families and individuals are living at these camps indefinitely to protect the sacred water.
From December to February the weather will be freezing. The highs will average between 30 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The lows will be 0 degrees Fahrenheit and below. Winterized shelter will be key for Standing Rock to continue its stewardship and resistance.
One tipi uses about 20 poles. With your generous donations we hope to provide almost 20 tipis to families who are living their lives to protect the water. There are many people that already have a tipi, but are short a pole or two so any amount of support will help a lot. The tipi maker at Rosebud camp has some canvas at hand and any extra money raised will help ascertain more canvas.
We have connected with a tree farmer in Wisconsin. Poles are typically a dollar per foot. These poles range from 20-35 feet. This farmer is doing his part by allowing us to buy each pole, no matter the size, for $20.00. The size of a delivery is 400 poles and we are committed to raising money for one truck load. This will cost roughly 8,000 dollars. An extra 2,000 dollars will be used for more canvas, gas, and whatever dividend goes to the Go-Fund-Me website.
If just 300 people donate $35.00 we would surpass our goal of $10,000! Any amount that exceeds our goal will be utilized for essentials like firewood, food, medicine, clothing, and so on. At the risk of being sensational, it would be a mistake to believe the resistance will survive without these dire needs being met.
