This Page is set up to collect a tip for a waitress : Ashleigh Schultz (a 24 year old Student) that works at Obz Cafe in Cape Town, South Africa. A group of people had dined there and then when it came time to pay, instead of adding gratuity, the Wrote "WE WILL GIVE TIP WHEN YOU RETURN THE LAND"

This is Ashleigh. Just a regular student trying to pay her way through University by Waitering.

Here is the Original Post from Facebook:

Ntokozo Qwabe, one of the leaders of the Rhodes Must Fall movement at Oxford University has bragged on Facebook about the way he treated a waiter. Qwabe wrote on the bill, ""WE WILL GIVE TIP WHEN YOU RETURN THE LAND". The waiter is a white woman. In Qwabe's telling, she was reduced to tears. "LOL", starts Qwabe's post, which has been liked on his Facebook page 90 times so far, and shared 23 times.

Above: Ntokozo Qwabe

Not only did they reduce this poor woman to tears but they took away her dignity for something she has no control over.  If this server had any land to "give", I would assume she would not be waitering in a cafe trying to make ends meet. They took money away from her and probably cause her to have a breakdown to the extent that she was unable to work for the rest of that day... Causing her to loose a days wage.

Not only has this impacted this one girl but it has encouraged people all over South Africa to follow suit and ask their servers for "LAND".

If you are able to please consider giving a dollar or two to show this girl that not all people are terrible and more importantly... to show this racist that the world does not approve of his actions.

Thanks in Advance.

I would like to address an issue that has been brought into the Ntokozo Qwabe debacle. I have seen some comments and perhaps even outrage over the Fundraising campaign that has been going on for Ashleigh. Many are saying if the tables were turned and this happened to a black person, nobody would have done anything. While I understand why people would feel this way, I have to also defend my side. Firstly, I decided to start this the GoFundMe page purely because I was having a bad day and when I saw the news about this issue, I was Outraged and quite frankly, FED-UP at the constant stream of racist news that was appearing on my facebook newsfeed. If it had happened to be a situation where a black waitress was discriminated against... I would have done the same because of my frame of mind at that point in time. Secondly, The tools that I used to create, promote and drive this campaign are available for FREE to anyone in the world. So if anyone (Black,White, Pink, Blue or Orange) feels strongly enough about a cause, there is absolutely Nothing that prevents them from doing the exact same as what I did. I did nothing more than sign up for GoFundMe (Free Account), Set up the page with some pictures and info I found from Various News reports and facebook profiles. Then I simply typed up a short little Promo Message with a link to the campaign page and posted it to every single conversation I could find about the issue. The people of the world did the rest. I am not a celebrity. I do not have thousands of Facebook friends. I do not have much money, and I most certainly don't have any kind of special platform to use to promote anything . I am an ordinary person who just felt strongly enough to try and make a small difference in my own way. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would escalate the way it has. And really most of the news reports I have seen and read make no mention of the GoFundMe Campaign so I actually don't even know how so many people found out about it. In conclusion, I would like to say, to all those who are trying to make this about White Privilege....IT'S NOT. It's about righting an injustice. It's about caring enough to take a stand. It's about being strong enough in your convictions to stand for and protect what you believe in. It's easy to be a spectator and complain, judge and talk trash....but if you really believe that life is so unfair and that nobody would do something like this for a black person, then how about you go out and do something about it? You can, Just as I have, stand up for injustices should you so choose! Be the change you want to see. There is absolutely nothing stopping you!

Despite the privileged education gifted to the ungrateful Individual Ntokozo Qwabe life seems to be teaching him nothing?? He is a typical Misogynyist who thinks its OK to pick on a Waitress, who served him his Meal? I'm not sure what point he was trying to make, but a Waitress is not usually responsible for Stealing an entire country from under the ignorant feet of this Black Racist? Qwabe is the perfect example of a Bigot with an education and no direction? He picked on a Waitress, because she is White, and this made him feel Big? What a Nasty little Man?

I can't believe how moronic some comments here are (no names mentioned). The young lady was not declined a tip for her service, she was declined a tip for being white....... no other reason. I suggest you (and you know who you are) go look up the definition of racism in the dictionary! Donating here is simply signing a contract against RACISM - nothing more - and if the races of the players had been reversed I would still be taking the same actions and writing this same comment! Also, for the record, I know of many a good person, Black, White, Brown, Green, Red & Yellow who have died or been imprisoned in the fight against Apartheid and Racism in general and bare in mind that it was this bigot that politicised this by posting proudly this neo-nazi like act! (What is the difference between how he behaved to how the Nazi's treated the jews in pre-war Germany) It was NOT the waitress that started this or complained publicly!!! This fund is about keeping things real and saying NO to RACISM in any form!

Please read this. I don't agree with the original facebook post but I'm even less comfortable with the completely one-sided and uncontextual framing of this incident. "What about the customer-server kindness? What of the gender power-dynamics? How can one person represent a race? Have white South Africans ever engaged in genuine reparations for the systematic oppression and dispossession spanning over 400 years which we are undeniably collectively complicit in, still directly benefit from, and which intensely, fatally, impacts lives of people of colour today? Or otherwise, “given back the land”? Well? The story of ‘the rmf leader’ and the waitress goes viral as media outlets and people loudly berate what is called a horrible act, flouting common human decency. And we can sit and loudly debate the different aspects of the act. And yet it seems that we think if we are loud enough about the act, we can quietly forget what it is centered on. But as for the act: instances of abuse of waiters, workers, petrol attendants, cashiers, and servers by customers or owners occur every day. Why do they not go viral and demand outrage if they really exist? Good question. It depends on race. If anyone denies this reality, then we suggest sitting in at the Newlands 24hour Steers at night, where drunk white youth come from Claremont ‘jols’ to perform their nightly ritual of verbally abusing the workers before retiring their privilege to bed. You can go almost any day of the week. But this example is only powerful because it is close to home for us. You can find a vast variety of this dehumanising treatment across the country’s urban areas and further out beyond the fringes of our faulty moral consciences, in the farms and mines that mark this country and its history. Do you really want to know how people treat workers in this country? Do you really want to know how white people treat black workers in this country? There is no outcry because there is nothing newsworthy about it. It is the bread and butter of our country. It speaks volumes that the main story of the white(customer)-black(server) interaction that goes viral, is always some kind of paternalistic white congratulating a black person for playing the ‘good black’, ie. smiling against the odds of their situation while happily washing the white’s SUV’s windows without being asked. The widespread approval seems to stem from one thing: being able to effortlessly ignore vast injustices pitted against them and continue to interact with the white customer with a joyous subservience. It seems to be their ability to ignore the link between the customer and the injustices that is their redeeming quality. So perhaps we can see why there is such an uproar around an inverse situation where someone refuses to break the link. For what it is worth, references to 'land' in daily conversation within decolonial spaces is a norm, because its accepted that the issue is indistinguishable from our daily realities. But for most of our ‘civil’ society, we demand that social interaction must be guided by some kind of empty Ubuntu; and socio-economic issues should be separated to unnamed spaces and governmental failures. We demand the impossible. The vast injustices, and un-righted wrongs of the past cannot exist separate from our daily lives. These filter down into our everyday social interactions. There is no way around this. Ubuntu is a farce in the face of this farcade. Our type of demand for customer-server kindness is one that demands us to act a-historically and a-contextually. And within this historically-created context, the common interaction remains a gendered racial abuse with white men on top and black womxn at the bottom. And since we have done away with any central white body without addressing white-instigated wrong, every white individual is now faced with this question of reparations. Our calls for common human decency conveniently overlook the fact that we willingly perpetuate a fundamentally inhumane society. It is a call for one-sided comfort from white fragility. What do calls for common human decency mean in such a country? **There might be much to debate in this interaction, but we would caution people, whether white or black, who solely side with this outcry. We are putting our signatures on a contract that declares blacks cannot confront whites about due reparations, even in jest, without being ‘racist’. We are disabling rhetoric toward justice** Are you aware that even the beloved TRC declared reconciliation without reparations is impossible?"

Tim, thank you for being objective and not turning a blind eye to what we see on the daily as citizens in the "so-called" mother city. Ernst, your act was the right one but not a righteous one. Based on the comment that if we want the land why don't we just work like everyone else, that's ignorant because i hope that even you would understand that in a 100m race, the runner starting at 50m will cross the finish line ahead of the runner who started at the starting line, and that is the case with this country. Though not condoning the humiliation of any individual , lack of insight as portrayed in that statement above builds anger and frustration. It is at the this point that individuals such as she mentioned above are recipients of the fruits of apathy, ignorance etc. I am not expecting you to understand because you are not raised by parents still recovering from shattered dreams because of the apartheid era, i'm asking you to be objective. Further more had you been objective you would have paid attention to her facebook update " I will go take a hot bath", a privilege many South Africans do not know. "Something that happened in the past", unfortunately every injury heals by scaring and the scares are what we have to see and deal with everyday, a painful reminder. So, when people like you and your dear beloved undermine our pain, that delays healing, that fuels anger and frustration and thus this continuous cycle of a segregated rainbow nation. Many here speak from a place of ignorance and being misinformed thus my big brain educated by " white-racist" grants (i'd like to know what that means) will not comment further.

Mr Wolf-Piggott go and find a podium somewhere else. Most of us are more than capable to reason for ourselves, detect and reject hatred when we see it--especially when it emanates from the likes of Mr Qwabe and his ilk (the number of which is clearly growing by the day). Ultimately, they will all reap what they sow, that's for sure.

What is she going to do with the money? if she keeps it I will be bitterly disappointed. No one deserves over R100000 for crying. yeah it sucked that she was humiliated, and Ntokoza is an asshole. But shit, why can't we do this for people who actually deserve the money? Like the woman from the cape who was bullied until she fainted in the PnP? Where is her GoFund me? this just makes white people look even more racist because they are only willing to help their own.

So, when people like you and your dear beloved undermine our pain, that delays healing, that fuels anger and frustration and thus this continuous cycle of a segregated rainbow nation. But shit, why can't we do this for people who actually deserve the money? Like the woman from the cape who was bullied until she fainted in the PnP? Where is her GoFund me? this just makes white people look even more racist because they are only willing to help their own.

Congratulations Mr. Qwabe, you have become what you claim to abhor. Either that or you are just an looking for any excuse to behave subhuman.
