 PARK FOREST, IL

On March 19 at approximately 5:40 am, Park Forest Police were on the scene at a vacant residence  investigating a break-in and a stolen vehicle found at the location.  A suspect exited the home and as the officers attempted to detain him, he produced a handgun and began firing on officers. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect. One officer, Tim Jones, suffered life threatening injuries in the gunfire exchange. Officer Jones was transported to St. James Hospital and then air lifted to Christ Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery for a gunshot wound to the head. He remains in critical condition.

Tim is a one year veteran of the Park Forest Police Department, and comes from a police family.  The Park Forest Police family are setting up this gofundme page to support Tim and his family in his continued fight for his life. All proceeds will go directly to Tim and his family for use in his care.

In the year Tim was on the department he had such a positive  influence! Always with a ready smile he volunteered for Special Olympic events, Toys for Tots and many other community events, soon becoming a young positive role model for the Park Forest Community.

Please continue to keep Tim and his family in your prayers as they continue to battle. Tim is a wonderful , motivated and dedicated person. His smile and laugh are infectious.

"When God's Warriors go down on their knees, the battle isn't over. It is just begun!"

It's hard to believe this day has arrived - Tims shooting was 434 days ago and today Tim went home! He will continue to receive out patient therapy and continues to fight and stays #TimStrong. This past year, 2 months and 9 days has been the worst of times and the best of times. The overwhelming love and support from everyone around the country has been so wonderful and so appreciated! Words can not express the gratitude that Tim's family, the Park Forest Village, and the Park Forest Police Department have felt for everyone's prayers, thoughts, kind words and donations!
Tim still has a long road ahead but he has remained strong, positive and resolute that he would wear his police uniform and return to the PFPD, well today he fulfilled the first step- as he wore his uniform as he was discharged from the rehab center to go to his home. The outpouring from Park Forest residents and other Chicagoland communities in support of Tim and the entire Park Forest Police Department has just been phenomenal - and has not been unnoticed and greatly appreciated!
Today is one more step in Tim's journey- thank you seems so inadequate but it is so heartfelt.!Thank you to everyone

As many know, a picture of Officer Tim Jones has not been released to the public since his critical injury in the line-of-duty one year ago today.

Tim and his family have allowed this picture to be shared with his many supporters on social media, and Tim asked that it be titled, "Another Miraculous Day at the Gym".

Ladies and Gentlemen, the unstoppable Tim Jones. Happy Officer Timothy Jones Day! #TimStrong

It is truly unbelievable that Tim was shot almost one year from today. The Chicago Tribune wrote a great story about Tim and his progress. They interviewed Tim's dad, Chief Will Jones and the Park Forest Chief.
It has been a year of tears, prayers, and miracles. Tim has fought and continues to fight everyday . We knew it was going to be one step forward and two steps back but still always moving ahead! I know updates have been few and far between but we really wanted to respect the family's privacy during this time.
Please know all the love, kindness and prayers are remembered each and everyday by Tim's family, the Park Forest Police Officers and most importantly by Tim. We remain #TimStrong

Six months ago today Tim started the fight of his life. He has surpassed all goals by just surviving the initial gunshots! We all knew this was going to be a long battle with small steps. Tim is making small gains and every day is communicating more and determined to continue improve! His strong will and determination that made him a star in the Park Forest PD is what continues to drives him now. As we all know that Tim has a long battle in front of him and there are no time frames set for Tim and his full recovery.

Tim is progressing on his terms. Tim is still in the rehabilitation center and still receiving intense physical therapy sessions. He is continuing to make small steps of forward progress but there has not been any major changes other than he is still wanting to battle forward and he seems to be ready for the long fight. Tim is very good with his memory and recalling past childhood events and remembers current people and things prior to the incident. He continually talks of Officer and Staff names and situations during his therapy. Tim's biggest battle is his physical movement and dexterity and the therapy is very tough and intense. Tim is getting stronger each week and they are really working on his core strength.

Please continue your prayer and thoughts –he does know you are all there thinking of him! His family and the Park Forest Police Department family truly appreciate the words of encouragement, prayers, donations, and well wishes that has been received! The awe-inspiring generosity and compassion everyone has shown toward Tim and his family is amazing! Know that every thought and prayer is passed on to them! Thank you all! #TimStrong
