Caught Dangerously Unaware
My 'little' brother Tim fell for Lainie, an enchanting Filipina woman who lives in Manila. Tim lives near Tampa, Florida. They met online and emailed each other often before finally meeting when Tim visited her.
Their relationship blossomed and Tim visited her again while working on a plan to marry her and bring her to the US.
His second trip was going great until he suddenly caught a bacteria infection in his lungs that laid him up for the rest of his trip. It was very serious and turned into pneumonia and acute bronchitis. Doctors treated him in his hotel room as they were worried his immune system was too compromised to leave and go to a hospital. They didn't have time to test what kind of bacteria he had, it was that serious.
Those three days treatment cost $3,000.
Tim worked for many years as an engineering draftsman, designing auto racing parts, motor homes and tv news trucks until old back injuries sidelined him. He had to go on disability and Medicare as he couldn't work full-time anymore.
He didn't know Medicare doesn't cover when someone travels outside the country.
I'm asking Tim's friends, family, colleagues and car buddies to chip in a few bucks to help his medical expenses.
I'm cutting it off at $3,000 because he doesn't need a windfall, just a way to cover those medical bills. The money goes straight to Tim. I'm making the first donation and I hope you all can help, even if just 10 bucks or so.
