Tim Pitsiulak Family Fund

Dear friends,

My name is Anna Gaby-Trotz and I am the Technical Director of Open Studio in Toronto. Last spring Open Studio was fortunate enough to have Tim Pitsiulak spend time in the studio creating his artwork. Everyone he met was touched by his presence. His artistic ability, kindness, and unending humor lit up the studio.  A week ago our friend Tim passed away suddenly. It is an absolute tragedy that the world has lost such a bright light. Tim leaves behind him a loving wife Mary and seven children.

This fall Tim took me under his wing while I was in Cape Dorset. I got to meet the beautiful family Tim spoke so much about, see where he worked on his art, and see Tim's "office" the land.

On behalf of Open Studio and Dorset Fine Arts, I am reaching out to people who knew Tim (or didn't but would like to help anyways) to raise funds to send to Tim's wife Mary Pitsiulak to help out with her family expenses. These funds will help Mary and their seven children. The cost of living is quite high in Cape Dorset (Canada’s Arctic), and these funds will go directly to things like groceries, clothing or other necessities for Mary and their children, as well as funeral costs.

Just a few weeks ago, Tim called us at Open Studio (after his trip to Toronto he would often call the office to say hello)-- I can hear his deep voice saying, "from my family to yours, I wish you a Merry Christmas and safe holidays". Tim was the kind of guy who you knew truly meant this-- his family and friends meant the world to him and you could feel that warmth and caring all the way from Cape Dorset. It's our hope that these funds will continue Tim's tradition of caring for his family.
