Timbul Turns 40, Needs New Computer

This week I turn 40 years young and my computer turns 10 years old. It is now officially the longest relationship I have been in. The Samsung Unicorn is worn out by a decade of service, on Windows 7. I am hesitant to travel with it (between airports or rooms) for fear of irreparable damage as 99% of my livelihood is connected to a keyboard. 40/10. It's time for a reboot.
Those who know me, understand that "a career path" in social justice activism, arts academia and storytelling from the geopolitical margins amounts to a rewarding life, but not a lucrative job. I make ends meet. There is sexy-honor in that. Statistically, 44% of Americans are $400 emergency expense away from financial abyss. Elsewhere, abyss maybe closer than it appears in most mirrors. The freelancer in me recognizes the student debt in you.
Still, we Patreon-Kiva-Kickstart each other on the regular. Teach a man how to fish and Hemingway will write about him in a parallel universe. Teach a person how to crowdfund and all will be well, full stop. Turns out, Samsung does not sell laptops in Europe since 2014 (which was breaking news to me in 2019). Since I am not an Apple disciple, I scouted a few A-list contenders for plan B, below. With software, antivirus, this 'n that ... the dreamy ballpark for assured decision-making is about $1000.
