Hi!
My name is Tiffany Sutton and I am seeking donations for a large scale photography project. The project features my family and families I’ve found in and around St.Louis.
The project is a series of formal portraits of black families shot with 4x5 black and white film and a accompanying large format camera. Black,Brown and Beige is inspired by the Duke Ellington album with the same name. The album is told in three parts and tells the story of the history of blacks in America thru the 1920’s, ‘30’s and World War II. My photography will tell the present story of blacks in St.Louis, Missouri.
Incorporated into this work will be an all black choir singing the songs on the album; which were originally sung by Mahilia Jackson. This performance will occur on the opening night of the exhibition.
With your donations, I will purchase film, process and print selected images to be shown. Donations will also go to members of the choir. As a thank you, you’ll receive a custom made print of you and your family to cherish forever.
