TiBaKalanga Festival 2018

Thank you to all our sponsors for helping us kick off this festival in 2017. We’re very excited and gearing up for the second annual TiBakalanga Festival II scheduled for 8-9 September 2018. The festival offers an ideal opportunity for Bulilma residents and visitors to participate in a fun event that draws a diverse group of people. Being a partner or sponsor not only allows you to be part of this great event but also to be part of the economic development of Bulilima District. The festival attracts visitors. Visitors spend money which boosts the local economy.

The Festival
·         is a two-day fun-filled event whose main thrust is to promote Kalanga culture while empowering people with a more stable and sustainable local economy
·         has its roots in an international cultural marketing workshop held at the TGSCCC in 2016 and facilitated by a US Anthropologist,  Professor Gordon Bronitsky.

·         showcases Kalanga traditional food
·         Educates local, regional and international audiences about Kalanga people, their traditional and contemporary arts and crafts, music and more
·         Creates a market for food products grown by local farmers
·         offers family friendly outdoor activities featuring top notch performing artists, dancers and storytellers
·         includes educational programming designed to raise awareness about Kalanga cultural and historical heritage
·         showcases cultural artefacts and handicrafts

Project Beneficiaries

The villagers and school children of Ward 6, Bulilima District and surrounding communities will be the direct beneficiaries of this project. Local farmers will have an opportunity to sell their produce while artisans and craftspeople of the area will be also be able to sell their wares without having to travel to distant areas to find customers. Some villagers will get the opportunity to host a visitor under the new concept of votel –  a village hotel where a visitor spends a night in his or her chosen homestead for a fee. School children will participate in various competitions such as singing that will be scheduled and also learn from local, regional and international performers who will participate in the festival. The festival will bring more attention and resources from the local, regional and national level to the infrastructure such as roads, water, electricity and more. The TiBaKalanga/We Are Kalanga Festival will enable the Kalanga people to advance economically while at the same time sharing their rich culture with the rest of the world in a mutually beneficial arrangement.
