BACKGROUND
In every of my trips to developing countries, I make efforts to interact with local communities, families and children and see them smile. I love to learn from them, but I also like to give them something back.

Following similar actions I carried out in Ethiopia, Kenya and Seychelles in the past, I plan on doing something in May 2018 when I will be visiting Cape Verde in Africa on a private trip.

This time I thought I could leave a larger footprint by gathering the support from friends and family. And this is why I opened this GoFundMe account.

I will be putting together money raised through this platform along with charity funds I am asking as gifts for my Birthday in February.

I will report the development of this action via my Facebook page and its results via my personal website.

GOAL
My goal is to raise €2000 to invest in family-support and children education projects in Cape Verde. The original goal was actually €1000. Since the response from family, friends and supporters has been incredibly positive by 19. January already (a million thanks, by the way), I've decided to double the challenge, therefore doubling the impact! :-)

Thank you very much for your support and for believing in me!

Dear Miracle Makers,

THANK YOU! It is with great pleasure and an enormous feeling of gratitude that I post the final report of this campaign with a short video of highlights of the time spent with the children in Cape Verde along with a detailed campaign expenses report so that it is 100% clear where every penny of the funds raised has gone to. As a final note, if you wish to continue helping the children of "Castelos do Sal", the bank details of the volunteer group providing them support is given below. (PS: Did you know that with €18.75 euros you can cover the food costs for one child for one month?)

So that's it, this success story comes to an end. And more stories like this are just starting to be written. If I managed to turn my charity box into hundreds of smiles, you can do the same! I will do the same again! Be sure of it!

Mission Accomplished! It is with great pleasure I hereby officially report the success of the campaign.

I have spent a week in Cape Verde, where I personally met the children who depend on the support of the group of volunteers "Castelos do Sal", and thanks to your donation, we managed to deliver 5 weeks of food supply for the children, a unique piece of clothing for each one of them as well as 50 children's books to build their library.

As promised, every cent of the €2,750 raised has been invested directly in the children. I have kept track of each and every expense, and I will soon deliver a final expenses report including all the invoices.

Once again, thank you very much for making this little idea turn into such a memorable achievement.

With a thankful heart,

Thyago

It's real! It's happening! And Y.O.U. made it happen!

Dear Donors, Supporters, Believers, in less than two weeks I will be landing in Cape Verde. During the week I will be there, I will be working closely with the volunteer group "Castelos do Sal" and the dozens of children who receive their support.

I would like to provide a short overview of where the money in this fundraising campaign is going to. The allocation of the money has taken into account the demands of the community as the highest priority.

As of now, estimated total expenses are as follows:

EUR 2,750.00 : TOTAL FUNDS COLLECTED
- EUR 163.63 : Fees paid to GoFundMe
- EUR 496.35 : Order of books *
- EUR 210.00 : Transportation costs for the books
- EUR 480.00 : Order of clothing **
- EUR 1,500.00: Order of food (to be carried by my directly once in Cape Verde)
=========================
EUR 2,849.98 TOTAL EXPENSES (estimated)

* Cape Verde is a Portuguese speaking country. Most of the children's books they receive as donations are in foreign languages though. These 49 books have been selected by the group of educators/volunteers who work with the children. I placed the order with the Portuguese bookshop "Boabá", who offered us a 20% discount given this is a charity project. I will be picking up the books from Portugal and dispatching them to Cape Verde myself.

** After assessing the costs of transportation from Europe against the prices of buying clothes in Cape Verde directly, it was decided to order them directly from the local clothing shop called "Beleza Style", who also offered us a reasonable price given the nature of the expenses.

Well, I think that's it for now. It is great to know we are bringing food, education, clothing and most and above all, lots of love and smiles to these children in need.

More updates on the project soon!

Wishing you lots of love,

Upon reaching the target after doubling the initial goal of the campaign, and after having counting with the donations of more than 50... yes... FIFTY people(!), it is now time to announce the next big milestone of this charity project:

I have made my homework in understanding the needs of several communities in Cape Verde, and I have finally come to a decision --> the money collected in this charity campaign will go towards covering the expenses of food and some educational and health needs of 64 children from social cases in the "Santa Maria" village in Cape Verde. These children are looked after by a volunteer group called "Castelos do Sal", with whom I will be working directly during my stay in Cape Verde.

The GoFundMe campaign will still be running until mid-March, when all funds will be gathered and further decisions will be made about its appropriate use.

Once again, thank you ALL VERY VERY VERY MUCH! We are a living miracle, guys! We all rock!
