The Mane Event Music Festival
Donation protected
The Mane Event music festival is the brainchild of Directors Jon Gilchrist and Tristan Gall from Geelong. The event is held during Mental Health Week every October at the iconic Barwon Club Hotel in South Geelong in association with Lions Club of Leopold. The aim is to raise money and awareness to combat the rising rate of suicide and support mental health services within the local community.
Tristan is passionate about his music has specifically supported and promoted the local Geelong music scene. Jon has been performing for over twenty years in various bands, but probably most known for his keyboard and vocal skills in local glam rockers, the Glitter Gang. Both having struggled with their own mental health, they saw a need for more support and funding in Geelong, and along with their passion for music, a music festival was the obvious platform from where to do this.
After approaching owner Greg Dodds at the Barwon Club in Geelong, he introduced the boys to Al O'Neill who books the venue. The three boys put their heads together and started the arduous task of creating a music festival which would end up a permanent date in Geelong's music calendar.
The inaugural music festival in 2014 showcased a Painters and Dockers reunion, and featured Mick Thomas, Nick Barker and some amazing local and interstate talent, raising $2,000 for Beyondblue.
Since then, The Mane Event has donated over $15,000 to charities, including Headspace and Black Dog Institute. This has included an amazing A-list of artists such as the Black Sorrows, The Badloves, All Our Exes Live in Texas, The Teskey Brothers, Jeff Lang, Rick Price, Nathan Cavaleri, Saskwatch, The Kite Machine, Rach Brennan, The Stiffy's, Famous Will, Matt Joe Gow, Freya Josephine Hollick, Tim Hulsman and many many more.
Please donate and keep this amazing mental health awareness campaign alive for many years to come!
