THEM: a new play by Morgan Dean

In the beginning of April, I began writing a play that has been bubbling around in the back of my mind for years. I am so, so excited to announce that THEM: a new play by Morgan Dean will be performed as a reading with the Summer Fresh Festival and Broad Views Over Broadway on August 23! The Summer Fresh Festival is committed to elevating the work of the LGBTQIA+ community, and I am so proud that my play was chosen to be a part of that. I am also proud to say that every member of my cast and creative team self identifies as LGBTQIA+.
"The summer after graduating college, Maren learns some stunning news: her cousin, and friend, has been arrested and is going to prison. This revelation forces Maren to confront her father and his nonacceptance of her sexuality and leads her to speak to her cousin during a visitation hour, where Maren navigates her family’s hidden past and comes to terms with what love means to her."
In order to create the best experience for my team and in order for me to get the most out of this reading, I am in need of some funds so I can:
1. Pay my actors and director a stipend, however small. I 100% believe that we must pay artists for their work.
2. Pay for rehearsal space ( I am planning on having seven rehearsals before August 23rd).
3. Pay for snacks/water for my team while we are in rehearsal.
4. Cover printing costs.
5. Cover costs from holding auditions that I paid out of my own pocket.
The Festival gives me an hour or two of free rehearsal time and discounted rehearsal space, which is why I am able to keep costs so low. I appreciate any and all donations. This play means so much to me and I intend to bring it to the highest possible level.
Tickets to the play are FREE and you will also be able to watch a livestream if you can't make it to Brooklyn.
