For the LOVE of PETE

Donation protected
My name is Terri too only I am Terri Ellen. My friend, Terri Jacobson, is just not comfortable asking for help so being the take charge kind of gal, I am the one asking for help for her and her furry family. She is my friend and favorite pet photographer. She gives so much to the rescue community that it's time to give back to her. Check out her website! Terri Jacobson Photography

In Terri Jacobson's words:

"I remember that stormy Sunday in November. We lost a couple of our senior greyhounds within weeks and my heart was broken. I sent a message to the adoption coordinator at Oregon Greyhound Adoption.

“Vicki, I want a youngster and all of our blood donor dogs have retired, do you have someone?”

Within minutes she replied. Pete, he is a very handsome, four-year old fawn greyhound.

He has been Peter Peter Pan since the day he walked in our house. Pete came home just as I lost Danny Bleu, the keeper of my heart. I was beyond devastated and entered the darkest days of my life. Pete crawled into my heart and brought light and life back to me.

Perfect Pete—beautiful model in front of the camera; best ambassador for a breed that is gentle, kind and loving; ready to donate blood to another dog in need (he is officially retired from that duty). Every night, without fail he climbs into my bed, hogs the covers and with his gentle touch reassures me that all is right with the world.

Just before Thanksgiving, two short years after adoption, Pete started to limp. The hard lump in the pit of my stomach forced me to take him to the vet clinic. X-rays were inconclusive. Rest combined with pain meds sent us home with a little reassurance that it wasn’t the dreaded cancer, osteosarcoma.

X-rays were repeated and the diagnosis was confirmed, we made fast decisions. We didn’t make the decision lightly, but our only hope of giving Pete a chance was amputation followed by chemotherapy. Quality of life is always our first priority and Perfect Pete is a great candidate. He’s optimistic, he’s young, he’s solid and he’s not one to miss a meal.

We amputated his leg in December, for nearly three weeks I stayed at home with him. The biopsy came back as osteosarcoma, a Stage 1 tumor. Osteosarcoma is brutal, aggressive and painful. It has taken five other greyhounds away from us and countless other dogs away from their families.

Pete was up and walking on three legs the day of surgery, spent one night at the emergency clinic and recovered at home nestled on his favorite cushions.

Chemotherapy glares us in the face now. Our veterinarian has spent countless hours researching protocols and following-up with other oncologists around the country. We will watch and listen to Pete and be his guardians to quality of life. His vet is the keeper of his physical health with weekly blood tests and x-rays to watch for metastic tumors to the lungs.

This is a journey we have never taken with our dogs before. But what if we’re successful? What if we can help another dog down the road?

Time with our pets is never long enough."

In addition to Pete's medical issues, Terri has just been informed than another one of her older greyhounds, Minnie, has a tumor on her lung.  So Minnie's medical care will be included in this fund. It's always something when you are caring for older dogs.

I should mention that in addition to providing the photography needed to help get pets adopted, Terri Jacobson and her partner Karen, have donated over $12,000 to multiple rescue organizations in and around the Portland and Salem areas.

She may be shy about asking but she will be grateful and her heart full when she will be able to provide the medical care needed to help the dogs in her care.

Thank you so much for any help you can provide.  Donate and share with your friends.
